My understanding from my son's flight yesterday - if it's liquid or spray or gel or whatever, it has to go in checked. There apparently was some confusion early on at the regional airport he left from as to whether even deodorant was allowed. Better safe than sorry - if it's not your clothing, put it in checked. He said there were trash cans full of confiscated perfume, aftershave, shaving cream, hair gels, etc....oh, and he did mention hairspray as well, but I don't know if that was pump or aerosol.
