For all the island travelers.........I'm looking to find the perfect luggage for trips to the island. In the past we've used rolling luggage, everything from the largest wheeled suitcase to small ones. I'm trying to find the most perfect "backpack" that can hold enough bikini's, tank tops, shorts and flip flops but that is also airline friendly. I'm tired of wheeling my luggage, navigating through security etc. Does anyone have recommendations of backpack luggage that can hold island clothing? I don't want the metal framed stuff that doesn't give with overpacking, I'd rather something free flowing, heavy duty that I can throw on my back to get me to the terminal and then retrieve at the other end and be on my mary way. Osprey has some great stuff but it comes with metal frames. Any ideas for the island travelers. Money isn't an issue. I just want some ideas. I've checked out several web sites, been to local places but nothing is working for me. Can anyone give any advice? Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with all the straps and belts getting ruined in travel. Any info is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. Jill

Jill -- If you are into designer prints or snazzy colors -- this site won't be for you lolololol But will say the rucksacks are durable -- hold up to just about everything -- and hold a great deal if you use your imagination. They are not stylish by any means -- but for doing the job you can't beat them.

rangerjoes.com -- go to field gear -- then to packs. There are huge ones -- small ones -- and on page 5 you have your medium rucksack that does not have a frame. Easy to carry -- fits a ton of stuff -- and will go into the overhead compartment.

Check LLBean! An institution for years with an unsurpassed reputation, I've no doubt that you will find what you need there. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Check out Rick Steves website. We bought the larger backpack and it works great. It expands and holds everything you need.

Try Lands End. We have several pieces of luggage (carry-on size) purchased from them many years ago and they have held up wonderfully.

Ditto on LL Bean. Also look at Orvis, their luggage is heavy duty canvas or leather. or a combination of both. Not sure if their backpack would be large enough though. But, might be worth a look.

Here is the website for the pack I was referring to. This pack has taken members of our family all over Europe. No dragging wheeled bags over cobblestone streets. It's very light weight and holds more than a carry on wheeler bag. Comes with some extra storage bags made out of light weight mesh. It's a must have for the seasoned traveler.
