My husband and I are getting ready for our first trip to St. John at the end of June and I was wondering if we should purchase travel insurance. I was looking at it back when I booked our villa and flight but have put it off because I didn't know if it was worth it. Do a lot of you purchase it when traveling to the USVI? Thanks for any help you may offer.
For myself, I wouldnt think about not having insurance, more so during hurricane season. I usualy fly with FF miles, but buy the insurance for reasons such as medical evacuation, lost or delayed luggage, cancled flight or delays, and of course the cost of the villa. To me its worth the peace of mind.
Considering the amount of money involved, it is always better to consider insurance. Make sure what the insurance covers as some have limitations and restrictions, making them useless.
texasgal,
Thanks for your response. May I ask which company you normally use?
Thanks again!
I use travelguard, they seems to cover more, for less or same price as others. I compared 4 or 5 companies and went with them. Wouldnt chance a no name for a better price. Travelguard has been in buissness a long time .
Thanks texasgal.
Does anyone else have any comments/suggestions? I just don't know if the insurance is worth it. A lot of people I talk to who travel never buy it.
lots of info and different prices for whatever u want to be covered for.
We also used Travelguard. Travel insurance is just like any other insurance...you don't need it until you need it. I know that seems like a Yogiism (?) but buying any insurance is a crap shoot and many people don't like playing.
If you are spending a fair percentage of your income to make the trip you should buy the insurance since you can ill afford the hit should something happen. On the other hand, if the vacation spend is less intrusive, you might find the cost to insure is nearly equal to the potential loss and thus cannot be justified justify.
