I'm a first time traveller to St. John's. What kind of travel documentation do I need?

We are leaving in 2 days and just found out our sons passport expired 3 months ago. Will a birth certificate for him do?

If you are going to St John's in Antigua you need a passport but if you are coming to St John in the USVI you do NOT need a passport!!!

Upon returning to the mainland from the USVI you MAY be asked for proof of identity and citizenship in which case the substitute for a passport is (1) a government-issued photographic ID such as a state driver's license and (2) a copy of your birth certificate. Anyway, don't worry - you're safe as we say here! Enjoy your vacation!
