Locals and some visitors might have heard the recent plan to permanently moor a very large tour boat, the Leyland Sneed 155', in the lovely and pristine cove known as Christmas. This cove is often the first place a newly arrived visitor anchors down and like me, they never forget it. There, you can enjoy a Sundowner with an unobstructed view West of the setting sun. Peace, quiet and tranquility. The whole reason that most come to our Virgin Islands' waters.
If the WT Enterprises people have their way, they will convince Coastal Zone Management to allow this venture in the middle of a registered marine sanctuary!! For the love of Pete, what in the heck are they thinking? Is the almighty dollar the only force driving the world? The scheme would involve a very long permanant dock to be attached to this monstrosity which would be functioning as a bar and restaurant becoming the focal point of anyone's view from the East End of St. Thomas to say nothing of those who have found this lovely cove a natural place to enjoy.
If you object to this, and want to add your protest to those of we locals and many past visitors, please address your concerns to John deJongh, Governor of The US Virgin Islands. The meeting is scheduled very soon to determine the fate of this lovely area. Please do not delay. The profit for a few will not make up for the loss for so many. The marine creatures living in this cove request action.

The meeting is with the CZM committee, part of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, on Tuesday evening March 4th at 6 pm. Letters are requested to go to Mr Austin Monsanto, the head of the CZM committee. The governor really doesn't have any pull at this point.

The Commissioner of DPNR is David Olsen. His e-mail is: [email protected] Wanda Mills-Bocachica is another contact in DPNR and CZM- [email protected]. I do not have Mr Monsanto's e-mail, but Robert Mathes is a member of the committee: [email protected].

Really appreciate the contact info. Went all over the place to find some place to protest, sent an email to Tom Bolt, heard nothing. I have forwarded this to the Charteryacht Society whose presence will be felt at the meeting. And, boy, do I wish everyone luck with this mess. Margo Rose

In anticipation of a large crowd, the meeting has been re-located to the VI Port Authority Conference Room at the Airport.

Due to the vessel grounding, the meeting is in question. Keep an eye out for any changes. From what I understand, part of the required meeting was to get the committee members underway on the vessel for a hands-on look. Vessel cannot do that now until dry docked and repaired. As of right now tho, meeting is on folks. See ya there! Remember: Moved to VIPA.
