Morning all, I'm headed back to St. Thomas on the 21st with my daughter and was thinking about going to Virgin Gorda for the day. Is this feasible and what would be the most efficient way to get there? I've looked at the sea plane route but it lands on the opposite end of the island from the Baths, the main reason we want to go there. Any idea what a two way cab ride would cost to get from one end of the island to the other? The ferry schedule is kind of hit or miss the way I'm understanding it (which may be NOT understanding it). It it possible to charter a sailboat or even power boat to the island? I'm a little unclear as to the distance between STT and Virgin Gorda. Any info would be most appreciated. We're staying in Red Hook but will have a rental car so getting to places on STT is not a problem.

The ferry ride over would probably be the cheaper route
according to the ferrie schedual its about 45.00 rt
If you want a guide to go through the Baths with take a excursion trip
We went on Stormy Petrel / Pirates Penny and had the best time

Good luck

We just got back from STT and Virgin Gorda. Try Smith's Ferry Service. I believe it was $55 round trip (you will need your passport). I checked airfare from STT to VG and it was $199. Cab fare from where the ferry dropped us off was $18 for 3 people. I believe the ferries leave on Thursdays and Sundays. It's well worth it to go to the baths -- it's truly remarkable!

We had a great time going to the Baths at Virgin Gorda via the Stormy Petrol, they are based out of Red Hook. We went to the Baths then had a great lunch on Cooper Island. We then went snorkeling at an amazing place with a cave, can't remember the name of it. Snorkeling there was amazing, we saw a 5 foot barracuda, an octopus, a moray eel and lots and lots of beautiful fish. The captain and his first mate were a delight. They also provided drinks and snacks. The caption makes a mean rum punch with several different kinds of rum. I'm heading back the 23rd for business, wish I could go now, rum punch, yum!

Linda,

My curiousity got the best of me and I e-mailed the Stormy Petrel folks. It's $125 for an all-day trip, plus $20 (customs fee?) and lunch is $6-$13. From what I have seen, it's a great trip and they don't book more than 12 passengers for the day. Hope it helps!

There's suppose to be a heck of a celebration on Jost at the Soggy Dollar on the 21st. If I could be down there then, that's where I'd be!

Well, since you have a rental car, here goes. SPEEDY'S runs from downtown St. Thomas to Virgin Gorda DIRECT on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. (subject to change) On Tuesday and Thursday, they depart STT at 8:45 am and 3:25pm. On Saturdays, they depart at 3:30 pm. When they return from Virgin Gorda to STT, they depart Tuesday and Thursdays at 6:30 am and 2:45 pm. On Saturdays they depart at 8:30am. This return trip is via Tortola. The ferry leaves Tortola at 7:15am and 3:25 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Saturday, it departs at 9:15:

Native Son departs daily from Red Hook to Roadtown, Tortola. Once there, you proceed over to SPEEDY's ticket counter and take Speedy's over to Virgin Gorda.

Speedy's can be contacted at 284-495-5240 if you want to check in advance that they are coming to STT on a particular scheduled day.

We took the ferry in February. I can't recall the name, but it was the one where you go non-stop from STT to Virgin Gorda. It is a small ferry (more like a small boat charter), where you can sit on top, outside.

Phew - memory is bad. If you search for my report from February 07, you will find the name of ferry, day I went and the cost - and a review. Caught it in Charlotte Amalie.

We went on Speedy's Direct Ferry from Charlotte Amalie to Virgin Gorda in June. It was perfect... you could sit outside on top or you could sit downstairs in the covered area. We took the 8:45 a.m. ferry and arrived on Virgin Gorda around 10:30 a.m. It worked out very well.

I don't see that anyone mentions that the ferry on Thursday and Sunday tp Virgin Gorda leaves from Red Hook (8AM) to Virgin Gorda. Returns on the same days @ 3PM.
