Can anybody tell me a good inexpensive way to get from the airport in St. Thomas to get to the ferry to St. John?
THanks in advance!
Last April we paid $11.00 for two along with suitcases to get from the airport to the downtown ferry. It would have been more to go to Red Hook to get that ferry. Taxis aren't metered, rates are set so just agree on a price with the driver in advance. Also there is more info if you click above on St Thomas and then Getting Around.
Have fun!
Really the only way that makes a lot of sense is just take a taxi. There are no airport shuttles or buses like many places in the states and elsewhere have. Take a taxi or rent car. There is bus service in the VI and there are buses in that area, but they aren't very realiable, they will take more your time, as you have to stop at all stops between point airport and point ferry, and if you have bags, luggage not that comfortable to be walking to the bus with the bags, and the buses are not really set up for taking luggage anyway. So take a taxi.

There wil be six of us. Do we just walk outside the airport and ask? Or is there someone I should call? Approximately how much should it cost?
Thanks again! Marjorie
Marjorie: I have to chuckle, and you will too once you arrive at the airport. The taxis outside are impossible to avoid. They do have a dispatcher who will direct you to a cab going in your (general) direction. Tell the dispatcher you want to make the X o'clock town or Red Hook ferry. The taxi system does not work like in the states, so just relax and go with the flow. While the taxis are not metered, there is a set price per person and they will charge you for luggage, too. Look on the navigation bar above under General Info and Getting Here, the taxi rates are there for the town (leaves from the harbor) and Red Hook ferries.
