Don: It isn't really a day trip. No direct transportation- you probably would have to go through St Maarten on LIAT or another plane. Several hundreds of dollars and not much time spent there!!

St Thomas is about the only one you could do- although you might be able to do Old San Juan via the seaplane. For St Thomas, there has been a ferry only November through April- they haven't announced if they are returning and when yet. Otherwise it will be an air trip. The seaplane is lots of fun- Seaborne Airlines...

Hello Don,

To visit St. Barths you would have to take Liat to St. Maarten and then from St. Maarten you would have to take Air St. Barths, Winair or one of the two or three other small airlines that run between those two islands or you can take a ferry between St. Maarten and St. Barths as well. The traveling would eat up most of your day as Liat's schedule and most of the commuter schedules don't line up very well so you could easily spend a couple hours in the St. Maarten airport waiting for the next leg of the short hop.

St. Thomas is definately doable. The Seaplane advertisers lower fares on their site, so you might call and also check out what their online rates are for your dates:

If you are going to St. Croix before Oct. 31st, Cape Air is running a special to San Juan from St. Croix (& St. Thomas, Tortola also) for $108 plus taxes.

You cannot do a day trip to St. Barts through St. Maarten(SXM) on LIAT, because LIAT only has one flight from St. Maarten to St. Croix and back, and it doesn't allow for a day trip, since the SXM-STX flight leaves before the STX-SXM flight. I think Coastal Air does day trips, though.. I'm not sure.. Do a google search for them and give them a call. The only other places you could definitely take a day trip to is St. Thomas and Puerto Rico. St. Thomas would be done on either Cape Air or Seaborne Airlines, and Puerto Rico, I would recommend Cape Air or American Eagle. I don't think Seaborne's schedules would allow you to spend most of your day in PR, since unlike Cape Air or American, they do not fly at night.

don-

as everyone else has said, st barts is not doable for a day trip unless you charter a plane... which obviously isn't a cheap route to take. if you are looking for a charter, let me know. i work at the airport and know most everyone that flies in/out of stx. coastal air (mike foster) doesn't to a 'day trip' per say, but he would be willing to do a charter.

as for stt or sju... i prefer cape air over american eagle or seaborne. as dominic said, seaborne doesn't fly at night (eventhough they do land in the heart of old sju). american eagle has a pretty bad reputation on island for poor service/cancelled flights. it's pretty common to find eagle cancelling flight on little/NO notice. cape air has a group of employees who are pretty laid back and willing to work with their customers. unless the weather is bad, they never cancel their flights cuz they have their maintenance based on stx. that's pretty good in my mind. any other questions, let me know.
