Okay Im trying to plan a wedding next summer and need to know what kinds of options there are for transportation. I was quoted that to get 30 people to magens bay and back to the reception would be 740$!! that seems crazy to me! Is that steep or am I crazy?

Hello Lisa,

That does sound like quite a bit of $; however its about $25 a person so if your starting and ending point are say in East End it could be right; as it would be $12 each way per person. Seems like you could get a special price though for such a large group. Who is quoting you this price?

Where are you starting from? And where is the reception? Taxi cost are by destination so I need to know where the starting and ending points are besides Magens Bay.

That the thing is that I didn't tell them anything about where I was going to stay. YOu definitely would think that we could get a deal of some sort. I dont want to say who is quoting me that because I don't want to discredit her company in case Im way off base for being annoyed. We havn't really booked anything yet because if the transportation is going to be so much we may have to do the whole deal through a resort. Oh Im so frustrated!

Hello Lisa,

Planning a wedding can be quite frustrating. 🙂

As previously mentioned - three or four taxi vans could carry your group comfortably. Two safaris could also but they are open air so outfits would be flying in the wind and hair dos... not a good transport method for a wedding in my opinion. So a few taxi vans would work. To give you an example since you don't know where you are staying yet;

If you stayed at Frenchman's Reef and were going to Magens Bay and then back to Frenchman's Reef it would be around $480 (not including a fee for waiting for your group to take you back or any tip you might want to give). If there was a reception stop in between then there would be extra fare charged for that stop.

It would be about the same price if you stayed in the Red Hook area. Maybe a few dollars more if you were out further like at Ritz which is a couple minutes from Red Hook.

Was there a limo included in the $740 quote? A limo for the bride and groom would add $150+ (depending on number of hours) to the bill.

Without knowing what the $740 includes it hard to say if its way off or right on.

Thanks so much for the advice. 480 is more feasible..........I don't think that a limo was included. I should probably ask for some more details. It sounds like (from most of the chat rooms and boards I've contacted) that frenchmans reef is the way to go on a budget! Thanks you so much! lisa
