When we stopped in St Thomas on a cruise ship we rented a jeep for the day . We went across the island to { south to north} stopped along the way for picture taking and ended up at mountaintop for the world famous banana daquiris and a most wonderful view of Maegans bay. on the way back we stopped at Sapphire Beach, The most beautiful beach I have seen. And we alos had time to snorkel for a bit. And al so had time to stop for lunch and go shopping. I would recommend Sapphire beach if you are going for the day. We are going to St John for 10 days, this April. St Thomas is having there yearly carnival in April so I dont know when you will be there. If you go in April It might be a bit hard to get a rental. Have fun!!!!

Yes, there will be taxis waiting at the dock area that you can engage to do a tour and beach/Coral World stop. They all do pretty much the same thing. You can go to cruisecritic.com and look up the threads on what to do in the different ports and find some people that write of taxis that have web sites, if you really want to reserve ahead.
