I have seen transfers available to Marriott hotel from airport for
$16.69 per person (we have three so would cost about $50.00)? I realize from several posts that Taxis are very expensive and everyone seems to agree to rent a car... We prefer not to rent a car and generally have a better time when we don't have to navigate, drive, etc..
so I'm O.K with paying more, I just want to find out how much more.
Is it really going to cost us more than $50.00 to take a taxi to hotel from the airport...I would think the transfers would have been significantly less than the taxi, which means taxi might be 80.00. I can get a limo for $135.00 plus tip-so might do that if taxis cost that much.
Also if anyone could tell me how much taxi is to Red Hook from Marriott(for 3 people)

The Taxi rate is $8 per person each way to the Reef from the airport. Check the posted taxi rates and a good idea is to print it out and carry it with you so you don't get ripped off.

Yes, I did find the rate sheet and have printed it out. On the rate sheet it also reads that the taxis will wait at the airport until they fill...etc.
How long of a wait and if I go on one of the vans how long will the trip take to the hotel. The limo company told me it would take them 25-45 minutes depending on lunchtime traffic. We arrive at around 1:40 on a Tuesday. HOw much longer for a multi-group taxi? I don't want to be stuck at the airport for an hour waiting to fill up a van and then another hour or more to get to hotel after a long flight.

Yes, the rates posted are for shared taxis. The driver will wait until he is full (or nearly full) to leave the airport. This is definitely the less expensive way to go. You'll have to decide if cost or time is more important to you.

Keep in mind that taxis will charge a per bag fee for luggage, as well... Also, keep in mind that the island operates at a slower pace that you are probably used too... Try not to be in a hurry... Relax and enjoy the island!!! Have a great time!

There is a bar in the airport luggage area. Grab a few drinks for the wait and car ride over.
