Hi All,
Our villa faces East End (St.John) and Tortola and we will be drinking coffee, etc. and looking at them for 2 weeks in December. What reasons would we go to Tortola for a day? Would we take a ferry to West End or Road Town? Any thoughts? I guess some beaches are different? Anybody go to "Sunny Caribbee"?

Hey MickB! My family spent 2 weeks on Tortola year before last. It was wonderful. Loved the beach at Cane Garden Bay. By all means, check out Sunny Caribbee. It's a wonderful little shop. Lots of spices, soaps, and the like. Hope you have a great trip. Please post a report when you get back. I'd love to see it. Happy Islanding. See ya!

Hi:

Tortola is AWESOME! I've gone there every year for the last ten years or so, and it gets better every time. My favorite beach is Smuggler's Cove; the water is great, and there are usually fewer people than at some of the better known beaches, even in high season. A great place to eat is Nexus Cafe and Grille in Roadtown. Fat Hog Bob's in East End is is not too bad either. Tortola is a good deal quieter than STT, but there is lots to do.

Thanks for the replies. Are the beaches you mentioned different from STJ beaches? or compare to any on STJ?
Islandlola, Where do you stay?
Wow, a trip report requires kinda requires a diary......OK, my wife usually does something like that anyways.

Smuggler's Cove on Tortola reminds me maybe of Maho Bay on St. John.

I usually stay somewhere on the northwest end near Smuggler's Cove. It's pretty convenient if you take the ferry to West End, though a little far if you expect to go to Roadtown often (but not VERY far; this is a prretty small island). PM me for the name of a great short term rental agent with whom we've worked several times.

You may get caught up in the beaches in St John and really have no need to go to Tortola. You will need a passport to do so if you do decide to. There are ferries that leave STJ and go directly to Tortola.

Visit Smuggler's soon. The BVI government just announced their intention to develop the property with conference center, hotel units etc.

God bless Laurence Rockefeller.

Oh wow, a conference center? I knew something was up when I was there last spring and someone had "accidentally" mowed down the trees and bush on several acres near the beach. There were cries of foul and allegations that it was to make way for development, all of which were denied...
