I'm going to be in St. Thomas the end of October. In the time that I'm there, I have 3 days with 3 ships in port, 4 days with 2 ships and one day with 4 ships and NOT ONE DAY WITH NONE(Yeah for me). My question is, what does one do the avoid the big crowds?

Well..... 4 ships arent big crowds.

The days we have 10 ships in port are the fun days.

The downtown area is a zoo. We went to buy gifts to bring home, bought two and left. WAY too crowded

I would suggest catching a taxi- going to east end of island - Red Hook - Fun area- but really you should take a ferry over to St john- it's like 7 or 8 per person round trip and they have great beaches minus the crowd that will be downtown. Unless you are really wanting to "Shop" then I can't help you - I hate to shop

Bill: I am unsure of your question. If you are trying to avoid crowds, stay away from downtown. If you are wanting to go downtown to shop and dine, go on the day that there are only 2 ships or on Saturday (no government offices open, so somewhat less congested). The end of October, while not as quiet as say mid-September, is nothing like mid-February. Have a great time on your trip!

Bill,

When ships are in usually there are specific areas that are affected.... Havensight is going to be busy with shoppers, taxis coming and going... Charlotte Amalie will be busy with the same... and the traffic between Havensight and Charlotte Amalie along the Waterfront will be more congested with taxis... Magens Bay will be busy - however I have been there when there are no ships, 1,2,3 ships... and if you choose to walk down the beach rather then plop down right where the concession is - which is where many folks do then you will find less people. Coki Beach is usually busy - its a small beach so no walking to find less people. Skyline Drive, Mafolie Hill close to the hotel and Mountain Top will be busier - and Drakes Seat. Everywhere else is fair game. Go to those places when the fewest ships are in and go to other beaches, St. John, other attractions when more ships are in.

Have a great time.

Hello.

I was wondering how I could find out how many cruise ships will be in town on a particular day.
