Hi there,
We are planning our trip for January with our two small children: will be 33 months and 11 months. My son (the 2 1/2 y.o) LOVES the beach. I was wondering which of these places has the most calm, clear beach with the least rocks. I am also wondering if anyone else has advice on which would be the best place to stay with the two of them. We would love to eat on the premises and have access to amusements there, though because our kids are so young, a kids' program will not do the trick.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
Cindy
Hi Cindy...
We just got back from St. Thomas, you didnt say which Island you were visiting.
If St Thomas is your choice, the beach your looking for is Megan's Bay. The best way to visit this beach is to pack a cooler with all the food and drinks you will need, and take any toys for you and your children. Everything is very high tourist prices there, a Coke will cost you $2.75.
The beach is perfect for children. Flat bottom, pure white sand and no debrie anywhere. It is one of the worlds top 10 beaches and it has earned it's award.
We rented a villa at the Point Pleasant resort, it had a kitchen and a wonderful wrap around deck and view. With three pools and beach access, there was plenty for children to explore and stay out of trouble. Our neighbors brought all four of their children with them, aged fron 2-11 yrs old. They seemed to have no problems.
Enjoy your visit,
Andrew
Cindy,
With your young kids I would not go for any of the beach resorts you mentioned in terms of the beach... if its in terms of the resort and carrying kids around then Morningstar first then Renaissance (if you get a room that is not up on the hill, no steps) and then Bolongo. In terms of a beach - try maybe Sapphire Beach or Secret Harbor. Renaissance would be my pick out of the ones you listed. Morningstar is a bit rough for a child and I have always found the water to be somewhat murky and with bigger pebbles in the sand... its more open to the ocean so less protected like say Magens Bay that Andrew mentioned - which is a good choice for a day excursion. Bolongo's beach is pretty but has lots of coral or rocks and Renaissance is OK for kids. Sapphire can have bigger waves sometimes depending on the weather. Secret Harbor is usually fairly calm - there are some sandy areas and some areas with a few rocks. Of your choices Renaissance - but definately a lower level room... many rooms are up on the hill - it will make for quite a hike up steps with little ones and things to carry.

Andrew,
Thank you so much for your helpful and thoughtful reply.
I did mean St. Thomas. I thought it was a St. T message board. . .that's why I left that info. out. Oops.
I guess we won't be drinking any coke ; )
Unfortunately, the resort you mentioned seems not to have any rooms available. We are going during a very busy time.
We will definitely check out Magens Bays, though.
Thanks Again.
Cindy
Wow, Islander. You really know your stuff! I wish you had been our personal travel agent. That information is extremely helpful. None of the other books, brochures, web sites or travel agents I checked could help me with that question! Thanks so much for your apt, focused reply.
Cindy
Cindy,
Glad to help. If you have other questions that you couldn't find answers too, or are wondering about - go ahead and ask.
