I know I saw a post on this a while back, but I can't find it. What would be a suitable tip for two adults, two kids on a BVI day trip from St. John (assuming good service)? I'm thinking for one of those charters that would have 10 or 12 people.
Thanks for any help.
We normally tip about 10.00 dollars a person. More if the pain killers and booze is good enough to get me to dip further into my wallet,
We had no idea how much to tip. We read that the only money the folks who host the trip make is from tips. We tipped $40.00 for the captain and $40.00 for his assistant. We still have no idea if what we tipped was too little, too much, or just about right/average.
We just figured they spent over 9 hours with us and a least a couple hours before/after preparing/cleaning the boat and wanted to show our appreciation of their time.
My husband and I tipped $40.00. I was told before I left for the island that that was normal.
We chartered a sailboat for just our family for a set rate. The crew owned the boat so we didn't tip anything. We assumed since they were the owners and they chose the rate that tipping would not be necessary. Am I wrong?
cg: I think it should be based on % of price- 15-20% of cost of trip. So if it is $100 per person, $20 bucks each if the service is good. As SoCalGal remarked; there is a lot of work that goes into making sure that you have fun! 😉
USVI fanatic: I know folks who operate their own boat and they appreciate it if their passengers have a great time.
