If you do a private charter for say 7 people for a day, what if anything is an appropriate tip??
Is this expected or does it depend on what you paid for the trip. I just want to make sure that
I don't offend anyone.
Thanks
Thank you all for the information. A lot to remember. As I have said before: it would be much easier without all this tipping.
Yes, it will be a long vacation, but we like to see as much as possible, when we are there.
I have read some books about the history of USVI, about the slave traffic and what happened, when they were Danish. So I think, it would be exiting to see some of the places, which is mentioned. Our plan were only to spend a few days on STJ, but then I started to read in the Forums and realized that this island – if I can trust you - is just a place for us with beautiful nature and good snorkelling beaches. The result is that we will arrive to STT the 30th of June, stay 3 days on S.H. From there to STJ to see the carnival. We cannot have a jeep on that day, so we decided to stay 2 days in Cruz Bay, and because E.L was not available (wedding 07/07/07), it will be Serendip. Then we have rented Island Cottage in Coral Bay for 5 days, and because we have read so many good things about Estate Lindholm, we will end up there for 3 days. From there to STX for 5 days – also at a place I have found in a Forum “Villa Margarita”. Totally 19 days in USVI. And because Continental has changed their schedules, we suddenly need a stay over in NY both ways, so we are away from home in 23 days!! I can tell you that I have never ever used so long time to plan a vacation. My husband think I am crazy. Every day I have to look in the Forums!! I hope my efforts will be rewarded.

Linne,
So jealous! Hope you write a trip report for us. Did you work out your NYC stay?
Cocosmom,
About NYC: I found out that my husband is a Best Western clubmember, and I have reserved a room at the President hotel there, when we arrive. Cost 220 dollars + tax, which is cheap at Manhattan (Belvedere cost more than 300 dollars). I have asked Continental, if we could have our luggage checked in to STT, but it was not possible. So perhaps we will take a taxi instead of the airtrain, or find a place where we can store our luggage. Don’t know what is most rapidly. Regrettably I later found out that our flight is 12.45 and not 3.10, as I thought. Continental has changed that too, so I do not think there will be time for any shopping, if we shall see some sights. The Crocs I will buy on STJ, don’t know yet, if I also can find neat sheets there. I will bring some bug repellent with me, and try if I can find this Avon stuff in STT.
When we are going home I plan to stay in Mariott Courtyard Elisabeth, NJ, have not decided yet. You can find a cheaper hotel near the airport, but I can see that this hotel is opposite a big outlet market, and I would like to go there half a day looking for cloth to bring home. But I’m not sure this hotel is the Marriott you mentioned?
Linne
Hi
I have not seen a neat sheet on STJ - sorry
Pia (St John)
I just want to add my little bit: If a person refuses a tip, then just accept it, and say thank you. I worked for many years in a service type job, and I was embarrassed when people tried to tip me even when I declined.
would you let me know how you felt about serendip? I am looking to stay there (?) a week with 2 adults + 2 kids. Thanks in advance.
One of my favorite movie scenes of all time is the opening scene from Reservoir Dogs that is exactly about this discussion of tipping.
It is an interesting exchange.
You should check it out . . .
One of my all time favorite movies. And the opening scene is great. Thanks for reminding me Mr White.
Promo - you are soooo funny 😉
