Our villa rental agency in St. John suggests tipping their staff for personal services. I'm wondering what an appropriate amount would be for being met at the ferry and escorted to our villa in Coral Bay?
You might consider them a sort of "Concierge" because they also function as an island guide, getting you acquainted with the environment and offering information on shopping, your villa's amenities, etc. Sometimes, the escort doubles as the manager or assistant to the owner/manager during your stay.
I'd tip $15-$20, but I've seen escorts get more when they provide more care during the stay... They'd just get this at the end. This is personal and dependent on your finances and the quality of the experience.
I'd be interested in what others have to say on this, especially those who are in "the business".
Any others have feedback on this? I am curious too. I always thought meeting guests at the dock and showing them to the villa was part of the renting package (I mean how else you gonna get there, get the key etc.).
Regan, Brad - do you recommend tipping to your guests? To whom, how much?

Tipping is optional, in my opinion. However, in practice, I always tip.
