My husband and I are planning a trip to St. John in October. Would prefer to stay off the beaten path so to speak and it appears the Coral Bay area would be ideal. If I chose to drive into Cruz Bay, how long would it take? How far to Maho, Cinnamon and Trunk Bays from Coral Bay (time wise)? Would it be better to stay closer to the Cruz Bay area and if so, where exactly? We will be renting a villa, but I'm just totally confused by all the options.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

None of the beaches you mention are more that a 10-15 minute ride depending on just how far off the beaten path your villa is. I guess Cruz Bay to Coral Bay is about 15-20. I never seem to pay much attention to time when I'm there. We just got back 2 weeks ago. Make sure to stop at Sinny Legs in Coral Bay for some great sandwiches and drinks. Tell Doug and Moe that Kurt sent you. Are you from Jamestown, NY or Jamestown, NC??
We're from NC.
Thanks for the info Kurt. Truly appreciate it. Jamestown is a nickname. I'm from southern PA, right over the Maryland state line.

Enjoy your trip. I'm originally from Pottsvile, PA.
Unless you are on a death wish or not interested in viewing any of the beautiful scenery along the way, I think you will find Cruz to Coral about 30 minutes. The closest beaches to Coral (Maho, Francis) are within 15-20 with the others a little farther along as you move West. The Lameshur and Salt Pond bays are south of Coral and also fairly secluded. They are also 15-20 minutes and you will need 4WD to reach Lameshur.
All that said, I agree with Kurt. Time is really relative when you are there.
If you want convenience of Cruz but somewhat seclusion of Coral, the Reef Bay, Chocolate Hole and Klien bay areas (SW side of island) are very nice.
