Has anyone stayed at either Magen's Bay Villas Club or Tropic Leisure Club at Magen's Point? Both are RCI exchange timeshares and get very mixed reviews on their board. I often stay at Blue Beard's on the hill up from Charlotte Amalie, another RCI exchange. While that one has it's quirks and the maintenance is sometimes iffy, the rooms and pool are fine. I'm not a fussy traveler and would prefer doing a three week stint at Villa Fairmount, but don't think they offer three week increments.

I've stayed there for the last three years... What do you want to know?

Is it terrible? No. Is it great? No.

Depends on how picky you are. I spend exactly 8 hours a night in my room, otherwise I'm out and about. I would much rather spend less on a room and more on other stuff to do on the island.

The rooms are very much like you would imagine a major chain low budget hotel (motel 6). Have never had a dirty room, but some of them are a little dated. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. Three years ago the cable didn't work... 10:30pm and they had a maintenance person come fix it about ten minutes later.

The grounds are pretty good. There are cats everywhere, but they don't bother you. Never seen any reptiles, although I'm sure they are around..

I was last there January of this year. The pool as usual is wonderful. Very relaxing and friendly people. The food is okay at best and overpriced. The sushi specials during happy hour are a killer deal. They have live entertainment a couple nights a week.

If you are not a fussy traveler this will suit you fine, and it's certainly cheaper than many other alternatives. I would say if you are planning on renting a car then go for it. If not, look elsewhere. Taxi fares to anywhere from this place are insane. $40.00 roundtrip to Charlotte Amalie if I remember right.

Matt,
Thanks for the info. I actually love the cats and chickens all over the island. I don't mind dated furniture as I don't spend much time in the room either, but some of the RCI posts had said the pool was closed, rat in the room, doors don't shut all the way, etc. It seems like most of the RCI travelers are used to five star resorts, which Bluebeards certainly isn't, but I like that place just fine. Was hoping to avoid renting a car this year for the whole time if I could walk to the beach. I don't mind walking the steep hills and always walked down into CA from Bluebeards.

I would rent the car. You miss out on so much when you're dependent on taxis which are VERY expensive. Visitors who opt for less expensive accommodations are the first to vent when they don't receive Ritz-type service. To be honest I don't recommend Magens Point as a destination vacation but, as matt031 says, "I spend exactly 8 hours a night in my room, otherwise I'm out and about. I would much rather spend less on a room and more on other stuff to do on the island. "

It is a long hot walk to Magens Beach from that resort - and uphill coming home.
