My wife and I will be bringing my parents down to STJ for a week and I would like to show them some neat things on STT. What are some of the best places to show them- they don't get around real well as they are both near 70 years old.
Hello KC Kid,
How about renting a car on St. Thomas. If you take the Red Hook Ferry over you can arrange for a Rental Car in that area (ie. Budget has a desk at Sapphire Resort which is close and I believe they offer pick up, you can check on that; also a few other car rentals in that area). You can drive from Red Hook toward the Northside (via Smith Bay then toward Mandahl/Wintberg and up through Rosendahl toward Drakes Seat then up to Mountain Top). Stop at Drakes Seat for the View of Magens, you can also stop at Magens Bay, perhaps get a delicious milkshake at the Dairy stand that is on the road to Magens Bay. On the drive to Mountain Top you will see a bit of the residential areas of Northside. Mountain Top is the highest mountain on St. Thomas so you get great views of the ocean and island while heading up. There are a few shops up there, you can have a drink/food there as well. Head to downtown next and see Charlotte Amalie. Depending on the time and whether you want to stop you can do that - more shops, historical sites (some of the sites require a bit of climbing steps so depending on your parents mobility you can decide if that is an option). If you just pass through town to see it then you can continue toward Havensight (if you hadn't eaten lunch yet there are a few restaurants there) then continue back to Red Hook by heading past Havensight toward Frenchman's etc. When you return the car say at Sapphire you can spend a bit of time there; swimming, having a cool drink, walking the beach. If you want dinner you can try the poolside restaurant at the Sapphire Condos called Restaurant Azure. Then take a taxi to the ferry to head back to St. John. How's that sound?
Or you could go play golf.
Shop downtown in Charlotte Amalie or Havensight.
Visit Coral World or Paradise Point.
Go on the Atlantis Sub Ride.
Visit one or two of the beaches.
If your folks can handle the steps maybe Blackbeards Castle and the other historical homes that are part of their tour.
Any of this sound good to you??

Thanks for the reply- I know that everybody asks the same questions all the time and it is a pain (I know, buy the book!). I didn't get to know STT very well last year as my wife was looking for employment and we were only there for a week. The move to STT didn't work out obviously so now we spend a week there every year until we get too old or too tired. (Not going to happen). Is there such a thing as an island tour that is not too expensive or is it just easier to rent a car and try not to hurt anybody?
