My sister and I will be in St. Thomas next week. We're staying at Bluebeard's Castle Villas!

I see "Things to Do" on every website, but they are all for expensive things and excursions. What can you do in St. Thomas on a budget? Unforunately, my sister doesn't have a lot of money and I can't afford to pay for her and myself, so I'm looking for cheap and fun things to do. We really like drinking, eating sleeping and laying out on the beach, but there is only so much of that you can do before you get bored!! haha.

Anyways, any advice would be totally appreciated! I have been to St. Thomas once while I was on a cruise. I have been to Coki beach and plan on going back. I also went shopping in downtown and ate at Hooters! ha

I am also debating on renting a car... it's the two of us ... we leave Saturday night and return the following Saturday... what would you all suggest doing??

Thanks in advance!
-Shannon

The great thing about the islands is that most beaches are free and the ones that charge like Magens and Trunk have only a minimal entrance fee. I would pick up a cheap stryrofaom cooler and pack it with some snacks and beverages for the day. If you want to see a lot of different places on the island it would probably be cheaper in the long run to rent a small economy car. Bluebeards Castle is close to downtown with lots of shops and a straw market. I'm not sure where the hot nightclubs are at because I usually stay in my neck of the woods on the East end when I am in town. I think that Duffy's has $1 drinks on Wednesday for lady's night.

Have a great trip!

Molly

Keep in mind that even if you rent a car if you want to go out at night partying you will still need a taxi. I think Greentree across from the downtown ferry had happy hour specials and possibly some night life. You might want to take the downtown ferry (or the one at Red Hook) across to St John's for a fun day too. They have gorgeous beaches there - no charge at Cinnamon Bay which has great snorkeling. You can rent equipment there for $5 or so. Woodys has happy hour beers for $1 and the Beach Bar gets fairly lively. The buses were nice looking there and although I have never gone on them did hear positivies about them and I think they were maybe only a $1 or so to ride. Kill a couple of hours at a timeshare presentation and they might give you a free sail - usually they only want couples though. Pick up the coupon books when you arrive at the airport and flip through them - I have found some great deals there. Enjoy and stay safe!

There's a bbq beach party at Island Beachcomber/Lindbergh Bay on Sunday late afternoons/evenings. The bbq dinner is $18.95.

Wikked at Yacht Haven Grande has a great happy hour - .75 cent wings (min 3), $2 tacos, $3 rum drinks, etc. From 4-7 every day except Sunday. Fat Turtle, also in Yacht Haven Grande, has a party on Fri night, and something on Wed night with cheap drinks.

You're going to be here during Labor Day? I think there's a beach volleyball tournament that weekend, and there's definitely something going on at Bolongo Bay Resort on Sep 6. Beach "Fyah" or something with live entertainment, crafts, etc.

You can rent kayaks, paddle boats, and other water toys at Best Western Emerald Beach.

There's a pool party on Sunday afternoons at Paradise Gate. $10 admission. They also have volleyball.

You can hike the nature trail at Magens Bay, and lots of hiking trails on St John that lead to beaches.

At Marriott's Frenchman's Reef/Morning Star, you can make a plaster sand plaque for a fee. Nice thing to do if you're crafty.

There's the Carnival night on Wed at Bolongo Bay with West Indian buffet for $27. Great live music and show, too.

Yeah, a trip to St John on the ferry woule be a great little excursion. Cinnamon bay is a great beach with free showers and restrooms as well as a snack bar if needed. As mentioned Woody's is a great party spot in STJ with some good deals on cheap beer and food.

Mojo's, the new outdoors bar on St Thomas in Havensight, now has live music on Sat starting at around 4 p.m., I think That's a very popular hangout, so you should meet lots of people there. They serve wings and booze.

Sorry ameri180304! Just saw your message. Hope you're having a better time.

We went to a lot of the places you guys suggested. Our favorite hang out was definitely Mojos! Their happy hour was from 4-9pm!! We also discovered Shipwreck, which was a cool place too.

We (oddly enough) hung out at Hooters a lot. We did check out Wikked and that place was really a neat experience. We never made it to Fat Turtle, but we wanted to.

Greenhouse was cool too!

One thing that we did that was one of my favorite things was on Wednesday we did the "Sunset Happy Hour" and took the skyride to paradise point (which was only $5) and hung out at the bar up there. We met a lot of cool people and had a great time.

We ended up going to Magen's Bay, which was fun and Sapphire Beach. Both were great!

Unfortunately for us, the weather was kind of crappy towards the end of our trip. I wish we got to see more of the beaches 🙁

We did go over to St. John, but it was raining all day and was pretty horrible.

One thing I wish people would have warned us of is the slow season and that when it rains, lots of the shops don't open. For instance, when we wanted to take the ferry to St. John from Town, we didn't know that they closed that basically closed that "station" and then we had to go all the way to Red Hook after waiting in town for 30 min. When we tried to go to Al Cohens on Saturday, they just didn't open b/c it was raining and bc their were no cruise ships.

Overall it was a great trip! If anyone needs any 20 something tips, let me know!!

heyshan: During September, you *always* have to call ahead to see if places are open. Many of the shops in Havensight are closed if there is no cruise ship, not usually because of rain. If there is a storm on its way, however, people may close down to prepare. I'm not sure when you were visiting, but we have had a couple of close calls in the past couple of weeks. Sorry! :$) Also places will close completely this time of year for repairs, maintenance, or just vacation.
