On our second day we had a trip with Captain Kevin and the Born to Rhumb. What an amaxing trip. There were 9 of us and the boat was more the adequate for us. We went to the Baths, Pelican Rock, Sandy Cay (suppose to be where Gilligans Islands was filmed) the Indians and Foxy's. Back to St. John for customs. They don't mess around there. Put your shoes back on, put your clothes back on, stand there, don't say a word, smile or talk.

A tip for everybody going out on a boat...wear LOTS of sunburn. You don't realize how much you're getting because you're in the water. We loved this trip so much that we could of done it every day. We highligh recommend it. Captains mate Andy was adorable and snorkeled with us at most sites.

Third Day we went up to Mountain top. There's some stores there and it's home to the Banana Daigari. Did some shopping took some pictures and then headed down to Magen's Bay. Magens Bay is a gorgeous beach, but there's no snorkeling there. Just a nice beach to swim. There is a concession stand there. We ate some burgers and clubs and had a couple drinks. After that we stopped at Utter Delight...mmmmmm....still good milkshakes. We stopped at Lattitude 18 that night to have some drinks and listen to open mike night. That was really nice, but the mosquitos were really bad there. I'm sitting there and a really nice gal comes up to me...Leticia!!!! I couldn't believe it, she recognized me from the pictures we all posted of ourselves awhile back. So, at least I met 2 people from this message board. Hey Sean....sure I saw you at the airport too :o)

On the fourth day we went to Coki Beach. Great snorkeling there. Another tip here. If you snorkel to the left side of the beach you can get caught up in a pretty good current. We were out there having a good old time, but when we turned around to come back in it was tough. We also ate at the Mailman...little shack that serves some pretty good food and drinks.

That night Molly Malones. They have really good food there and if you're from the Philly area, you have to meet the owner. He'll hang with you almost all night.

Fight day was a shopping trip to Havensite. Then onto Sapphire again because everybody loved it so much. That night we just ate in and hung out.

Our last day was spend going over to St. John on the car barge. No problem getting on at all. Kinda of scarey though because there were pretty big swells. Headed up to Cinnamon beach first. Unfortunately, the water was cloudy and you couldn't really see anything. We decided to head to Trunk, but it was packed. Husband and myself had been there before and I really wanted everybody else to see it, but they decided we'd head to another beach. We saw some wooden stairs off to the side of the road and a couple parking spaces on the other side, so we decided to stop there and walk on down to see what was there. One of the most beautiful, cutest beaches. Somebody told us it was called Jumbi? Snorkeling was that great. Did see alot of small fish, but the water here was crystal clear.

Before getting back on the car barge we stopped in town for some food first. I don't know what the name of the outdoor place is we ate at but it was tex-mex...it was pretty good, but the prices are kinda of steep. One soft t. aco for my husband was 7.95. Stopped at some stores for shopping, especially St. John Spice, which is a really nice place to stop....great store. Got on the car barge back and headed to Marina Market for some water and beer. Back to the Villa and another night at Molly Malones. By the way, found a parking space in Cruz Bay for both of the jeeps because a couple trucks had just pulled out. After getting back to the car, there were tickets on both cars. Parking tickets for parking on the side of a one way street. There were no signs there and we assumed that if others were parked there, why shouldn't we?? Oh well, it was a $25.00 ticket and I guess it's going to be taken out of our deposit on the car rents.

The flight back home has been addressed by Philly Sean. It was horrible and I'm still trying to get back to normal here because it was so exhausting.

Some tips:
Be very careful driving on St. Thomas and St. John....Look at alot of the cars there, they've been side swiped
Wear sunblock and put it on constantly.
Mosquitos were out, but not that bad.
We drank the water and nobody had a problem.
Make a list of what you want to do and expect to do 1/2 of it.
Be prepared and force yourself to get on island time, most islanders are already on that time.

Connie,

Thanks for the trip report. I am so glad you had a great day with Captain Kevin and Andi on Born to Rhumb. We went out with them for the second year in a row this April and it was definitely our favorite day of a great week!!

lol Islander...reading back on that it's pretty funny. Yes....wear sunscreen. I did and I did fine and i'm a very light blonde. Others look like they're burn patients. Don't let the sun OR shade fool you.

I didn't bring back Rum. I wish I did..but with all the rushing around..i just didn't do it....at least I can buy it here! Cruzan is the best!

Connie, so what night were you at Latitude 18? We were there the evening of the 22nd I think. It was a Sunday, and a guy called Barefoot Davis was singing. sang some stupid song about Sponge Bob Squarepants drinks at Latitude 18. haha. Was that the night you were there?

It POURED down the rain that night, and the road was pretty bad.

Mountaineer...the days are running together, but we were home on the 21st. How hard is it to find Lattitude 18?? Especially if you haven't been there before. I think my daughter and the other "kids" were scared to death. Really hard to find, but a neat place.

Sorry I missed you.

By the way...we didn't have a drop of rain the whole week we were there.

Connie,

Just a word of warning: If you don't pay the $25 parking tickets in the allotted amount of time, it will cost you a lot more later when the car rental company debits your credit card for them plus a hefty surcharge (it's in the rental contract fine print, even stateside, that they can charge you for tickets you incur in their vehicles and tack on outrageous extra costs for taking care of your obligations for you!)

Hi Connie,

This part of your trip sounds great! 🙂 I am going to St. John in June and I'm always on the lookout for great beaches. I was wondering where and how far "Jumbie" is from Trunk Bay? Do you need parking permits to park at these beaches? Thanks!

Jeez...about those tickets, I didn't know that. I'll get on it tomorrow and thanks for the information.

Darlene...We were coming back into town from Trunk and it wasn't far at all. The steps going down to the beach will be on your right and about 100 feet away on your left is enough parking for 3 cars....4 tops.

Thanks Connie!

That sounds like a great alternative if Trunk Bay is too crowded! It also sounds like a great beach! We'll be there for 10 days and we want to do mostly beach days with an excursion and shopping day in the middle. So we're trying to compile some type of list for the beaches we "must" visit. Thanks again!
