Day five- Woke up praying that the rain was over. I remember waking up in the middle of the night & listening to it pour. Well, you guessed it, more rain! Sat on the veranda, sipped coffee & enjoyed the view, what little we could see of it. By lunchtime it had started to slow down so we decided to take a chance & venture down the hill & try out Hawksnest Bay. My oldest who has decided that driving is the "bomb" & thinks that it reminds him of a roller coaster ride, takes the wheel & my husband just shudders in the front seat. The rest of us are getting used to the driving which is a very scary thought. Hawkesnest is a dissapointment because the water is so very cloudy from run-off. We decide to try Caneel Bay instead & find the water in much better condition & have the beach in front of the resort to ourselves. As we are standing in ankle-deep water trying to get our fins on, my husband yells that he just saw a large ray swim by & sure enough there is one cruising around as well as a pretty good size barracuda. It started to sprinkle again so we just stayed in the water & snorkeled around. Saw a few turtles & some fair snorkleing around the boat dock. That night because we were out of food brought from home, we ate at Pastory Gardens. Had to wipe off the chairs, but it was not raining. Thanks goodness! Had a very nice meal. There were only two other people, so our service was the best. Mahi sandwiches were really good, the food was fairly reasonable & the view at night was wonderful.

Day six- Cloudy with just a few drizzles, so we head out to Waterlemon. I am concerned about the trek out there & am now so paranoid about bug bites that I cover myself with repelent. I probably glowed in the dark! Even though it was overcast, quite a few people had the same idea. I guess everyone figured it might continue raining so why not take advantage & snorkel the best beach today. It was our best snorkel day ever. We saw nurse sharks, squid, turtles, & a few fish I had never seen before (that's how I determine good snorkeling). We swam along the shore & then ventured over to the island. The only problem we had that day was there were quite a few families with small children some foating on rafts & splashing. The worst was an adult with fins who didn't know how to use them. Every time someone yelled that a turtle was in the vicinity he would swim over slapping those fins on top of the water making horrible, loud noises & then complain to his wife that he can never seem to see the turtles like everyone else. Well, hello. If your reading this post, you now know why. Towards the end of the day, my husband runs up to me as I am getting out of the water & tells me he thinks he lost the car keys. He thinks he placed them in his zippered pocket in his swim trunks & the zipper was now open & no keys. We found our oldest & asked him if he had the keys & he said he didn't, he thought he gave them to dad. Panic! I started moaning imagining being stranded out there. My DH went over to a nice couple we had seen before & asked to use their phone to call the rental company, but when it rang he lost the signal. We had everybody on the beach involved! Some offered rides, others adice. Everyone knew about our dilema. I am wandering around looking in the water like I'm going to find it or something. About 20 minutes into panic mode, my oldest yells, "I found it!" and holds up the keys. He tells everyone on the beach that he found the keys by the water's edge, but in reality he found them in the cooler pocket where he had placed them! He didn't want anyone to realize they had been swimming with the Three Stoodges! The worst part of snorkeling at this beach was the walk back. We were sticky, wet & tired & the walk seemed longer. I was thinking it was a shorter walk then we would have had! Ate at Margarita Phils that night.
