I'll be coming to SST sometime between now and the end of April. I have the use of a condo at The Anchorage in Redhook. How is this for location? Is it right on the ocean? This is my first visit to St. Thomas (I usually go to Vieques). Are there anything don't miss things I should be sure to get to? Thanks in advance!

The Anchorage is right on Cowpet Bay- shares it with the St Thomas Yacht Club, Cowpet East and West Condos and the Elysian. Arthur's Restaurant is on the property- great food by the pool. You will be close to Red Hook for lots of bars and restaurants. As to "don't miss"- what do you want to do with your time?

Hello,

Anchorage is a nice location. Not to miss activities - watersports; a few beaches, some snorkeling, diving if you dive, boating, fishing maybe... besides that what types of things do you want to do so we can give suggestions (ie. dining, siteseeing, do you like hiking ect...)

I'd love to rent a bike my first day on the island - and then just explore, find some great beaches, eat great inexpensive local food and forget snow exists! (and ex-husbands) Is there a bike place anyone could recommend? - I'm looking for a fast lightweight touring bike if possible.
I know the ferry to St. John is close - and I want to bike there as much as possible. I don't dive but plan to snorkle a couple of days - are there coral reefs along these islands? This will be my first vacation alone so I'm just looking to kick back and soak up the peace. Thanks again for the input 🙂

Hello cj,

No bike rentals for touring as you describe. You will want to rent a car for St. Thomas and St. John - there are scooter rentals if you want to go that route. The islands are very hilly, roads go up and down and around the mountains - cars are best. There is a bike tour on Water Island with a group if you were interested in that. Snorkeling - yes you can snorkel from beaches like Coki, Sapphire and Secret Harbor on St. Thomas and on St. John you can try easy to access beaches like Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay - if you have a car drive out to Salt Pond Bay or Lameshur.

You can also take the passenger ferry to St. John and then hike some trails - there are a few that start right behind the National Park Visitor Center in Cruz Bay so make for an easy hike.

cj: Just to reiterate...no bicycles on St Thomas/St John. Not only because of the hills, but the roads are very narrow and folks drive like they are on the Santa Ana Freeway and are not looking for cyclists... I also don't recommend the scooters for the same reason. Please rent a car!!

Thank you all so much for all the good info. I hadn't relized just how steep and narrow and twisty the roads are there. I'm not going to worry about transportation - just hit the beaches and relax. I love this board!
