I would like to thank everyone for the information that made our trip to SST a great success.
We learned the following:
1. Travelers checks are not necessary, but they can be used.
2. Driving can be an adventure - the roads are narrow and contain very tight curves. When in doubt - follow someone and keep your shoulder to the road shoulder.
3. Buying groceries can be expensive, we shopped at K-mart when we could. The Marina Market has the best meat selection we found, but at a price. The prices varied greatly from store to store and seem to change often. We shopped at Cost-U-Less, Food Center, Marina Market and K-Mart.
4. Eating out was expensive BUT the portions were much larger that we were used to in the states, even at the high end restaurants.
5. When in doubt - ask. The people were very helpful and friendly
6. I didn't see one snow shovel or snow plow our entire time in SST.
Again, thanks to all, we are already planning (and saving) for our next trip.

Tough lessons to be learned for true but you stuck it out and it all sounds good - come back again --soon.
davev,
i am so glad that you enjoyed your time in the islands, and that you did not permit any of the differences between life here and where you live (except for the snow and ice, natch!) come between you and a fantastic vacation!
cheers to you and yours!!! and come back soon.
