We are arriving in four days in STT and the Weather Channel forecast calls for thunderstorms part of each day. Is late May part of the "wet" season, or are the meteorologists just hedging their bets against all possibilities. Should we really expect it to rain part of each day? If so at least the cisterns will be full. 😛
I've never found that they get the weather right. 30% chance of rain means nothing....when it gets over 60% then I start to worry, but even at that the showers and then they go.
Have a great time!
With rare exception, showers are passing in nature and do not occupy the day. Some areas of the island(s) may get rain while others remain dry. The rains are needed to keep the islands green and fill the local cisterns but unless the weather event has a name attached to it there is very little worth worrying about.
Heck, you're going to be in STT in 4 days!! Doesn't get much better than that.8-)
You can run wunderground.com zip code 00801 -- they are as good as anyone at predicting the future.
weathercarib.com is the preferred website by most sailors -- it has a TON of links and info.
Remember all local residents say a small prayer for rain every day as it is the only water you have at your house.
Until there is a weather site that operates like a bookie -giving odds, allowing bets and paying off when they are wrong - it is just a guessing game with a steady paycheck, right or wrong.
May is rainier than other times. Most likely, it will just rain SOMEWHERE between Puerto Rico and St. Croix. If it is raining on one side of the island pop over to the other side for the sunshine!!
