Does anyone know the taxi fare from the cruise ship landing in Charlotte Amilie to Red Hook and from The ferry landing in St Johns to Trunk Bay beach?

Cruise Ship Dock to Red Hook - first person is about $10, 2nd, 3rd and so forth are $8 each person.

Ferry to St. John is $3 each way for adults.

Taxi from Cruz Bay St. John to Trunk Bay is about $5.50 for one person, $9 for two people and $4 each additional person.

Entrance fee into Trunk Bay is $4 each person.

Have a great time.

Taxi service exploits the guest coming to visit their island.

Frommer's indicates using the bus service to get around, but our experience was that the bus service REFUSES to pick up tourists so they
are forced to use the exploitive taxis. Roundtrip from Charlotte Amalie
to Red Hook was nearly 60 bucks for a family of three.

Islanders rates are pretty accuarate.

Try taking the ferry from Charlotte Amalie to Cruz Bay. It will save you
the taxi fares but be watchful of the ferry's times.

St. John was beautiful but your time there will be quite limited.

Really consider an excursion on St. Thomas. Basically, you will trade some
crowd for more time. Just plan what best suits you.

The taxi fare issue was one of the most disappointing aspects of our cruise
and we will probably not plan on visiting these islands again for a long.

I'm curious if any of our Federal tax dollars go to fund their bus system?

Atlanta: I hope you will consider contacting the Taxicab Division of Licensing and Consumer Affairs (340)776-8294 and fax 774-9180. The Vitran buses run very irregularly, but they don't discriminate between visitors and locals. I hope you will not let one taxi driver prevent you from returning to the USVI. There are plenty of good folks here ready to welcome you and your family!

Hi There,

$60.00 for two people round trip between Red Hook and the airport is a bit steep. I think the fare structure calls for the fare to be about $9 or $10 per person each way.

On March 30th we paid $12 per person from airport to red hook with four people - our ride was prearranged so we were met at airport by driver.

Published taxi fare schedules are avaiable from the St Thomas page on this site.

Thanks to the both of you for the scoop! I called the night person at East End and let them know I am now an educated consumer. The person told me to call back in the morning to let them know what I wanted.

I f its not too much bother I would also like to know if there is a tipping scale or what the going rates are for tips?
This is a great site for the naive!

Thank you

Joy
