Hi everyone- you've all been so helpful so far! i have another question...
we are arriving at the STT airport at about 9:30pm on a wednesday. How easy is it to get a taxi, is it safe (i feel like i have to ask that now from reading this board, though i'm usually not an alarmist), do we have to wait for the van taxis to fill up, etc. We are just going a very short way (to the island view guest house). i saw some airport transfers on the internet for like 30 dollars to the IVGH but is that worth it? Any imput would be appreciated. Thanks!

You will be able to get a taxi. The drivers know the schedule and if a plane is coming in that means business for them so they will be there. The taxis line up right by the baggage claim, so yes its safe.
You do typically have to wait for the taxi to fill up unless you want to pay for a private taxi.
Should be about $5 a person, one way for a shared taxi. Baggage will be $1-$4 a piece depending on size/number of peices. $30 sounds like a private taxi; was that per person or for a group?.

Geez, the Island View Guest House is just 10 minutes or so from the airport; talk to the folks at the guest house and find out who their preferred taxi company is (if they have one) and try to use them.
No worry, you will not have problems finding a taxi as long as there are passengers streaming out of the airport... but you will pay premium rate to take a taxi alone instead of waiting for the vehicle to fill up.
I sure do wish that I could locate a copy of the tariff sheet issued by the V.I. TaxiCab Commission, but they might have some at the airport's taxi dispatch station.

We have the tariff information on the site for each island, including the provisions. If you scroll to the top of this page and click on the island of interest (in the blue bar, just below the banner ad) a drop down menu appears. From the menu choose Taxi Rates.
