Greetings All,

Does anyone know he "authentic, authorized" taxi rates from the airport on St. Thomas to both ferry departure locations--the one in "downtown" Charlotte Amalie and the other on Red Hook?

I know that the rates are different for one person vs. two or more, plus I think there is an extra charge of $1 per bag.

Hello Ed,

The Official Taxi Rates & Regulations for St. Thomas, St. John & St. Croix are available on our site. At the top of the page click on the island of your choice and from the drop down menu choose Taxi Rates.

Where I am stuck is WHAT is the taxi stop for the ferry from Charlotte Amalie to St. John called. I'm trying to determine for some other folks (I've always gone to Red Hook to catch the ferry) so they'll have a good idea & I just can't figure out from the airport on St. Thomas to <> fare. That's why I posted the question...maybe I'm thick (wouldn't be the first time I've been accused of such), but I just don't see an obvious stop listed.

Hello Ed,

Sorry about that. 🙂
The stop would be just "Charlotte Amalie". So

Airport to Charlotte Amalie Rates Are:
6.00 (1 person) 5.00 (2 or more people, each)

Airport to Red Hook Are:
13.00 (1 person) 9.00 (2 or more people, each)

These quotes are in a shared taxi. At the airport drivers will take as many people going in the same direction as they can. If you want a taxi just for you or your party and your party doesn't fill the taxi they are going to charge you more for a 'private taxi'.

To help avoid misunderstandings, I get it clear with the driver what the total cost will be (fares, luggage, kids, whatever) before I get in the van rather than when we reach the destination.

Thats an excellent suggestion Nick.

Just noted the comment about luggage. Yes luggage is $1 to a few dollars a piece - depends on the size.

For the folks that I am providing this information, I included the caveat that you mentioned. In addition, I suggested that if they are among a group of people in the taxi going to several destingations and they are not getting off at the first stop, they needed to make sure none of the people getting off didn't grab one or more of their bags by accident or otherwise.

Thanks for your reply.

OK JUST to throw my two cents in
AIRPORT TO RED HOOK(SECRET HARBOUR)
when fran and i got to the airport in december we got a SHARED taxi (and BOY WAS IT SHARED! LIKE FOUR OTHER COUPLES CRAMMED IN! WITH LUGGAGE)AND it was 26 dollars(for the two of us) PLUS a few dollars for each bag...!
they said if we wanted a PRIVATE taxi it would be 63 dollars for the two of us and our bags...
(we had two bags)

from charlot am....to RED HOOK it was 9 dollars each

from secret harbour to red hook or the ferry it was four dollars each

from secret harbour to charlotte it was 9 dollars and the same to frenchtown

Many people I have talked to get quoted a much higher rate AFTER you get there. Make sure you ask BEFORE you get in the cab and ask if it INCLUDES the bags because a few people have been charged a seperate fee for bags.

But - always be nice.
