I will be staying in Sapphire beach for two weeks in early June and was wondering how much a taxi will cost from there to Redhook. Is there a shuttle available at the resort? Is the road to Redhook unsafe for bikes or mopeds? Any info will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks everyone!
Matt
Hello Matt,
I don't know of a shuttle. A taxi will cost a few dollars, its a short distance. The road doesn't have any shoulders... its the road and then grass/brush. It is possiable to bike it or use a moped but keep in mind the lack of side walk, shoulder space and blind corners. At night for sure take a taxi. Bikes are not an option for much of the rest of the island, as the island is mountainous (many steep roads).

There is no shuttle, but a taxi is always waiting at Sapphire. It cost $3 to get to Red Hook (Marina Market is the place for what you need). You can get a taxi or a "gypsy" outside the Market, just stand there with your cart and someone will see you. I have found the "gypsies" to be friendly, quick, and not a ripoff. Make sure you set the fare before getting in a cab as they sometimes are higher than the posted rates (ask at the front desk at Sapphire)
Or, just rent a car for the week right at the Budget counter in the lobby at Sapphire. Book on-line with Budget and you will get the best rate.
