Two taxi questions- first, how hard will it be to catch a taxi from the airport to Saphire beach on Saturday, April 27? Do i need to pre arrange a taxi or just get one once we land? Second, will taxi's be available from Saphire beach to Red hook at 6;30am? Thanks for any reply
air port to saphire = no problem mon. You'll be placed in taxi van (with many others heading in your general direction).
6:30 am = arrange in advance for private pick-up. will cost $$$ for the 3 minute ride.
The taxi dispatcher right outside the terminal will take care of you - it's a very well-oiled operation!
Between midnight and 6AM there is a $2 per person taxi surcharge - the regular fare from Sapphire to Red Hook is only $4-5 per person. At that time of the morning the $1 safari buses are running frequently taking workers to the ferry. You could just go to the top of the hill at Sapphire and stand by the road to catch one as long as you don't have luggage.
Thanks for the info. Do the safari buses run 24 hrs a day?
No. They start early in the morning but stop running right after sunset (which is early here).
do you need to be in red hook at a specific time? The "safaris" do not maintain a regular schedule. Baiscally "free-lance" busses, not regulated.
If you call for taxi at 6:30 am there is good chance they'll try to charge you the private rate. Talk about rates when you arrange the pick-up.
We have to be in Red Hook by 7:00 to catch the Bad Kitty boat/snorkel trip so thanks for the heads up
Make arrangements the day prior to be sure. Don't wait to call in the morning tht you need to get somewhere.
and call as soon as you wake up to confirm.
