I will be arriving in Cruz Bay with 3 other adults and 3 kids. We have one rental car but will need a taxi to get to our rental house in Coral Bay. Will it be easy for us to get a taxi for a trip like this and if so, how much should we expect to spend?

Given there are 6 of you in all, plus luggage I assume, you should have little problem getting a taxi to take you.

The reason I qualify this is because almost all taxis in St. John are of the safari bus type. Meaning, they make their money by being able to load up with passengers.

If you were a group of say, 2 or 3 or less, you might find it a bit more difficult.

Taking a taxi fro Cruz Bay to Coral Bay will probably be expensive. I don't know the exact rates but it's all the way over on the other side of the island. Would suggest that you pick up your vehicle before you leave Cruz Bay. Hope that you have reserved a four wheel drive car that will fit all of you. I assume that you are staying in a villa in Coral Bay. Many of them are in the hills and you would need 4 wheel drive. Check with your management company and see what they suggest. Some managers will take you to your location. I have taken a taxi from Cruz Bay just up the hill to Pastory and it has been six dollars just for one person with one piece of luggage and that was less than a mile away from town. With all the people and luggage you will have it's bound to be expensive.

Again, four wheel drive is not necessary on the island. Front wheel drive will be just fine unless you plan on going off-roadding. I've lived here for over 7 years and never had any problems.

-As far as your people/luggage problem, might I suggest that you take halfto the villa and come back for the other half? They could hang out at the Beach Bar and relax while you do it. They'd only need to hang for about an hour or so. That might be worth the savings to you. It would to me. JMHO.

Taxis have FIXED rates, and I believe you can access that from this website. Also, the rates are by number of people. The cheapest is 3 or more people.

Rates for Cruz Bay to Coral Bay:

11.00 for one person
18.00 for a couple
7.00 for each person in a group of 3+ people

(Might be a couple dollars more depending on where exactly you are headed in Coral Bay.)

Children under six (6) years old will pay half price.

For boxes, suitcases, grips, liquor boxes; there will be an extra charge of $1.00 each piece after the first parcel. For oversized or heavy items the price should be discussed and decided upon between driver and passenger before departure.

There are pretty much always taxis in Cruz Bay during the day, just by the ferry dock.
