Hello again, one and all. ALthough I've only posted a couple of times, I enjoy lurking about on the message board and reading peoples various memories/experiences of St John.
I am dismayed, however, by the amount of talk of how locals are rude...or of people not reccommending one store or another because of people's lack of courtesy towards tourists.
We never ever experienced anything of the sort! I wonder if it is just luck, or maybe something more? Most people on this world are looking for the same thing as anyone else... to be happy. Now, anyone can have a bad day, and who knows what is going on in another persons life at any given moment? Don't take things so personally...not a single one of us is so important that we should expect perfect courtesy and manners from every single being we meet. However, I strive to treat everyone with as much compassion as I would like to receive in return. And if I don't receive it, it's ok!(I know I've got some Karma of my own to work out, so I just assign it as "I probably deserved that at some point") 🙂
We are homesick already for our island.... I can't wait to return. I hope all new visitors to the island really take a chance to explore all the nooks and crannies for themselves... to meet people, to talk and to get to know them. Don't just take my word for it (or anyone else's)!
i agree. there are alot of poor people working on st john. i did feel more tolerated than appreciated, but all the money i spent there didnt get to poor people. i liked it that people didnt suck up because you were atourist. i love st john more than anywhere. its beautiful but real.
