We'll be in STT for the week of Easter and have several questions. This year we'd really like to explore St John and are considering taking the rental car across on the ferry. If anyone has done that I'd appreciate hearing how it went for you. What are the advantages, would it be easier/cheaper to just get a car for the day on St John? Favorite places to see, eat, best beaches, anything would be helpful. Also, since we're getting in the day before Easter at 3pm I don't have a lot of time to research a good option for the Easter Sunday meal in St Thomas. Are most places closed for the holiday? We're staying at Bluebeard's Castle (timeshare week) but any suggestion on the island would be great. Thanks for any input.

As far as the rental vehicle is concerned, the only agency which doesn't allow its vehicles to go to STJ is Hertz. Dependable and Amalie on STT garner all around positive reviews. Best all-around beaches on STT are Magens (very limited snorkeling but gorgeous mile-long beach with full facilities), Sapphire and Secret Harbour for excellent snorkeling and swimming and some facilities and Smith Bay Park (limited facilities and snorkeling but beautiful). Entrance fee at both Magens and Smith Bay Park.

The link to the inter-island ferry service is right here on this site under "Quick Links" top right.

Most restaurants on St Thomas will be open on Easter Sunday, some offering just their regular menus and some adding on Easter specials. Thinks and thanks for the heads up - that Kahlua baked ham was awesome over Christmas/New Year and should be offered again ...

With all due respect, the majority of your questions about St John and places to go there are easily answered by using the search engine on this forum. Top of this page to the far right of "forum home" is the "search" link. You'll come up with a plethora of suggestions!

Just got back from St John. We rented a jeep from Amalie. They met us at the airport and we drove it over to St John(where we stayed for the week) on the car ferry. Getting around the island was very easy. There were 5 of us so car rental was actually cheaper for the week. Taxis are $5.00 per person each time you take one. For lunch we liked Skinny Legs, Sun Dog at Mongoose Junction. We also had a lunch at Caneel Bay Resort. There is an upper deck at the restaurant with a beautiful view. You pay $10.00 when leaving the resort, but if you eat there you get your ticket validated and there is no charge. You have access to there beautiful beach and a celebrity can occassionally be spotted there. Also loved Hawksnest, Cinnamon Bay and Trunk Bay beaches. Trunk gets very crowded when cruise ships are in at St. Thomas. So best not to go then. For dinner we loved the Banana Deck, Cactus on the Blue, Morgans Mango. For nighttime entertainment the Beach Bar (listened to a great Reggae Band, also great sunset from there) and Castaways. We had a great experience with our car rental from Amalie.I would highly recommend a trip to St. John as it is less crowded than St. Thomas and you will be blown away by the beautiful beaches. Have a great time!
