Are there any swimming pools available for lap swimming, for example YMCA pools or other facilities? I think there might be one on St Croix. Are there any on St Thomas?

There is a new community pool in Red Hook, right next to the National Guard armory.

The community pool is run by the St Thomas Swimming Association and, from what I understand, it's open to the public at most reasonable rates. Two numbers are listed: 340-779-7872 and 340-779-2500.

The pool was a long time coming with years of dedicated work and planning by Kathy Huttle and numerous volunteers until it came to fruition. Cheers and enjoy!

There's a story---how true it is, I don't kow---that when Tim Duncan was growing up on STX he showed promise to be a world class swimmer. He practiced in the only pool on the island, but Hugo came, the pool was destroyed, he focused on basketball and the rest is history.

You can always swim Magen's. It is almost a mile across.

True about Tim. He actually only started playing basketball when he couldn't swim anymore!

Well, that's good news for those of us who like to watch him play basketball!

I can only imagine how great of a swimmer he was if basketball was his second choice.
