As you may all know I have been posting looking at a few certain villas. But now that has changed due to the fact that tomorrow is my surgery day and it has changed my recovery to a very long recovery. So here's my question, If and when I get Dr.s approval to travel I would really love to come to to St. John to relax and heal. So I need a villa where I can spend alot of down time with a killer view if that's all I can do. Not sure if I will be able to craw into a pool and MUST have as few steps as possible. Something close to Cruz Bay in case I need to quickly go back. Although hope not. The villas I was currently looking at were a ways away so I need to now look at closer ones. Any ideas are appreciated. All the first day traveling to get there from Michigan is going to wipe me out for the first few days so a sun deck would be a must. Thanks in advance...

I hope that surgery goes well, my husband is due for arthroscopic knee surgery and thought that we would spend his down time on island as well. I would recommend searching vrbo.com or homeaway.com and ask the owners about the steps and any other obstacles that may be there.

Being close to Cruz Bay because you may have to go back quickly -- it could only add another 20-30 minutes to be elsewhere on STJ - unless you really went to the far East - maybe a villa or condo in STT would be easier especially if you are truly likely to be housebound - the views and weather can be just as spectacular.

Best of luck on the surgery!

This would be my pick. Close to town and close to the clinic.

Im not going to be able to do any power walking and Im sure I will be getting tired easily so I have to really make sure I/we can get a slow stroll to our connecting flight. No way will I run. I just cant rush this trip. As for a villa, I will keep checking out websites and email owners. If the sand at the beaches (I cant remember) is super soft and you sink in that might pose a problem for me. So I will see what the DR. allows me to do other than being told what I cant do.

Don't forget that a wheelchair is an option, and if you arrange it ahead of time it should be waiting for you at the gate.

We were on St John a few weeks ago and stayed at Lavender Hill Suites, a small condo complex in Cruz Bay that is walking distance to everything, and very nice. www.lavenderhill.net. Right next door is the brand new Grande Bay Condo complex. It is even closer to town. We toured a couple of units and they are amazing, with the added advantage of having elevators to make it easier for you after surgery. They are only about two hundred yards from the Beach Bar in Cruz Bay. Their rental occupancy seemed quite low in early June, so their pricing could be quite negotiatable right now depending on when you are traveling there. Several units are listed on VRBO. Have a great trip!
