*I will be in St. Thomas one day (May 18, 2004) on a cruise. Where can I go fly fishing from shore? Is there a fishing license required? If so, where would I obtain the license, and how much does it cost?
Hello John,
In the U.S.V.I a recreational fishing license is not required if fishing with hand lines, troll lines, cast nets, snares or spears. A commercial fishing license is required for fishing with traps, set-nets or seines. Licenses are required for recreational fishing within the British Virgin Islands. These licenses can be applied for locally.

Hopefully Patrcik will help out with some fishing spots you could try out.
Have a great time.

Hi John,
Being on the island for a day does not offer you much if you want to fish from shore on STT. Flyfishing on STT involves a bit more and having a boat is a must to get to the right spots. However, St.John has Mary's Creek that is just a cab ride away from the dock in Cruz Bay.
But.... if you can get a fishing license on STT for the national park, you can fish the mangroves and catch baby tarpon and snook. You can get the license at the airport (2nd floor).
I have flyfished off of Magens bay and hooked up with tarpon and other species before
Another option would be to rent a kayak and head off to the flats close to St. James Isalnd. Haven't done this yet (will do on the next trip) but have heard that the 'bones' are awesome.
Best of luck! Do let us know how it goes.
