We are looking for suggestions for a sunset sail out of Cruz Bay or Coral Bay?

Any pros or cons for choosing one bay over the other?

Would welcome all suggestions. We are looking for a small type vessel not a large Party boat!

Thanx!

There are quite a few. I'd sail around the Cruz Bay area to get the nice sunset and see the twinkling lights of St Thomas. Choosing the boat depends on the number of people in your party.

These guys get rave reviews since they do a nice high end meal.

Looks good - but, we are looking for a sail out of St. John not St. Thomas.

Our favorite is Phil Chalker and his Wayward Sailor. Phil's is definitely not a party boat. He's a good guy and extremely knowledgeable about the islands and the ecosystem. He loves the Caribbean and enjoys sharing his knowledge and love of the ocean with his guests.

Have to agree with Nick about Captain Phil on the Wayward Sailor. He would be my first choice if you want to leave out of Cruz Bay.

We also took a snorkel sunset sail out of Coral Bay with Captain Rick and Robin Gallup on Long Distance. Very nice people and this is the quiet side of the island. Not a party boat.

See my recent trip report. I haven't posted about our day with Captain Phil yet but I did about Long Distance.

Here is a link for both:

I'd have to cast yet another vote for capt phil! We did an all day sail w/ him, but I wouldn't hesitate to try him for the sunset sail. He's quite the host and loves to share his knowledge of the waters!...and some stories as well.

Sue yes I know you are sailing from St John which is why I was saying sail around Cruz Bay to see the sunset and the twinkling lights of St Thomas. Rumbaba will pick you up in St John.

But yes there are tons of sailing charters, and its hard to go wrong with any of them.

Good luck.

Thanx for the update - I wasn't aware that Rumbaba would pick up passengers on St. John.

Funny - we stayed on St. Thomas last year & had thought of checking them out then. So, I might give them a call. I had written them off my short list because I didn't see any reference to a St. John pick up on their website.

But, I will check it out.

Looks like it might be down to them or Captain Phil. Was toying with the idea of Long Distance out of Coral Bay - but, we seem to be leaning towards the Cruz Bay side for sunset.

Thank you all!

Thank you all!

Just got off the phone with Captain Phil & we are all set for our sunset sail with him.

What a nice man!

Can't believe that this time tomorrow we will be flying down to the islands! WooHoo!!
