*Are there places to see sunrises over the ocean on the eastern end of St. Thomas and St. Croix in April?
Are mosquitos a problem on the islands?
With only a day to spend on St. John- how to get around- want to see Trunk Bay
and Cinnamon Bay at least.
St. John "taxi's" are the way to go. They can pack 10 into those babys and they are everywhere. AND - from what I could tell it's rather exciting on some of those corkscrew hills 😉
One place to see a beautiful sunrise in STT is from Sapphire Beach on the east end. Bugs?? WHAT bugs? In paradise? They wouldn't dare... Seriously, the answer is it depends - the little no-see-ums in STJ leave my husband completely alone but they absolutely LOVE me. I am particularly susceptible to any kind of bug bite so I learned to bring prescription strength steroid cream with me. Packing some Benadryl caps and some Benadryl gel for the itching doesn't hurt. One tip - Benadryl and Margaritas don't mix particularly well - lol. My husband's prescription is to bring about two pounds of Volpe Genoa salami and consume it at regular intervals. He swears it's the garlic that keeps the no-see-ums at bay. Yup, and every other living thing, too - lol. You might want to get a rental car for your day in STJ - that way you are on your own schedule and route. Pack a small collapsible cooler in your suitcase and load it up with ice, etc., for your day trips. Have a great time!
Where are you staying on ST Croix?
I know from experience that you can see the sun rise from St Croix by the Sea Condo's, and Granada del Mar. I would think any villa or hotel from the Bucanneer on east (and has a sea view) would be a good place. We were there last April and took a video of the sun rising from a condo at Coakley Bay Condos. ( Wonderful to experience, excruciating to watch on video! Have to FF through most of it...) We enjoyed experiencing the quiet of the island predawn. Then just as the sun is about to rise the roosters start crowing and all the birds start chirping and calling. The colors the sky and clouds turn as the sun comes up are breathtaking. Quite a show!
I know people have mentioned having mosquito problems, but personally I've never even seen one there. I've lived mid island and on the beach and stayed at east end. Maybe I've just been lucky there... here in SE Texas they LOVE me!
Be the first on US territory to see the sun rise. Drive out to Point Udall. It's the easternmost point in all the US.
The best way to experience Point Udall is to go down onto the isthmus itself. It’s in thousands of thin, undulating, vertical layers with small, shallow sea pools at the base. As the sun rises, the pools become turquoise, and a large blowhole makes rainbows. On windy winter days, 50-foot waves pound the rock and send spray 100 feet into the air. The whole thing rumbles. If that doesn’t wake you up in the morning, nothing will. Haha!
