Hello - I am from N Carolina and my sister and niece are going to St Thomas for the first time. Staying at bolongo bay resort. Any suggestions; where to go, what to do, how to get there and what we should take while we are on our adventures would be sooo helpful. I am looking to have some medium activities while I am there and get more for my dollar. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Darci
Darci,
Welcome - the first thing you will realize that in St Thomas the sky is Caribbean Blue, and Dean Smith had nothing to do with it. The added bonus is the water matches the sky...
You guys have picked a great resort to start your adventure. I would recommend renting a vehicle - nothing fancy just wheels.
Start looking into day sails and maybe a day trip to St John. If you are there for just a week there is plenty to do or even better lots of time to chill. Nightlife is good in Red Hook, but I will say it again - NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS AFTER MIDNIGHT. Do not try to do everything the first visit.
Hang around the board read a little and join in and pretty soon you will have all your answers.
When are you going?
Do you scuba/snorkel?
Is good food or reasonable price more important?
Adventurous or Relaxed?
Shoppers?
When you come back from STT - what are your expectations?
http://www.bossusvi.com/ is a great way to spend half a day....my ex-wife, Tiffany, runs this biz and I highly recommend it. Everyone that goes on it just raves....and I, myself, think it's the BOMB!!!
Hello,
Plan a few beach days. Sapphire Beach, Coki, Secret Harbor offer nice beaches plus close to shore snorkeling. Magens is a beautiful beach, it is popular with cruise ship passengers and also on weekends with residents - some enjoy this while others prefer it quieter. If you want the latter then check the cruise ship schedule for the month you visit and pick a day with fewer ships. Morningstar, Cowpet, Emerald, Lindquist... lots of beaches.
Head to Havensight and/or downtown Charlotte Amalie for shopping. In Havensight you can plan on visiting the Butterfly Farm, visit Paradise Point too. In Charlotte Amalie you can take a look at some of the historic buildings in the area.
Paradise Point also has a couple nights where they do a sunset happy hour with live music. You could check that out. Other bars/restaurants also have happy hours.
Bolongo has some cool evening activities like their Caribbean show and various things at Iggies.
Having a rental car would make getting around and exploring the island much easier. If not interested, then taxis are readily available, it will add up quickly though as they charge per person, by destination.
At the top of this page click on the St. Thomas tab and you will find options for Beach Guide, Activities, Attractions, Taxis, Car Rentals... check those pages out for more information.
Plan to visit St. John, its an easy day trip from St. Thomas. Short ferry ride.
As for stretching your dollars. You can look for coupons. If you rent from Budget for example they typically provide a coupon book, some of the Visitor Booklets contain coupons, Paradise Point's website has a few coupons for their stuff.

Make a small picnic basket, maybe from one of our deli or take out restaurants, and a small cooler of drinks and have a day at the beach -with a towel ,some shade, [wear sunscreen always], a book, some snorkeling or swimming, --- just a nice peaceful vacation day. Change beach destinations daily-- Repeat as needed!
A visit to the Baths in Virgin Gorda always makes for a good day, too....try going with New Horizons II, Captain Nautica, or Limnos..those are y three choices, in order...or you could do it by ferry on your own, but the planned trips are more enjoyable to me... http://www.b-v-i.com/baths.htm
