Hello fellow islanders,
Am hoping to get some feedback from locals regarding the Hotel Caravelle, specifically with respect to safety. I have to go over on business and I generally like to stay in the thick of things, but I must admit I am a wee bit concerned about misjudging downtown Christiansted at night. I know that STX has been getting a lot of negative publicity, not all deserved, but I will be a single woman travelling alone and would really appreciate some honest responses. Feel free to email. Thank you.
Onika,
My guess is you're coming from STT, right? If so, exercise the SAME cautions you would while in STT. I don't believe there is that much difference between the two islands. t's not like you're going from Heaven to Hell! Enjoy STX. If you REALLY believe C'sted is much worse than Charlotte Amalie then you should stay at Buccaneer, Carambola, Divi or one of the other resort type hotels. Enjoy your stay on the Big Virgin!
Ali-
I was actually hoping to avoid a boring resort in the middle of nowhere, but I didn't want to be cocky and think my NYC attitude could get me through completely unfamiliar territory. :0)
After your response (here and on usvi-online), I have resolved to stay in C'sted. Thank you for your help and see you on the big isle!
Hi Onika,
I wouldn't worry. The Caravelle Hotel I assume is in the Carravelle Arcade, which is right off the boardwalk. It's well lit has security cameras and several well established businesses. My only concern would be about where you park if you rent a car. Cars parked on the street downtown get broken into sometimes, but I think The Caravelle has a parking lot on it's west side.
My wife and I go down to the boardwalk after dark all the time. Your gonna have great fun. Eat at Rum Runners and walk down the boardwalk to the Ft. Christian Brew Pub (Their Microbrew is Choice!).
Have Fun!
Bless Up,
J.
Onika,
Glad to hear you're coming over from NYC. You will enjoy your stay in C'sted. Just exercise caution as you would anywhere else in the world. 'aright!
Actually Ali, I live in STT now, but honed my "street skills" on the NYC subways growing up. I know enough to usually get me by, but downtowns that turn into ghosttowns after 7:00pm (e.g. LA) generally unnerve me.
Looking forward to Thai Garden and the other rests. in C'sted!
