Day 3- We decided on a road trip to Cane Bay. It was a beautiful ride out and it’s a very nice beach. We laid around, swam a little, snorkeled a little and thought maybe we’d come back later in our visit to try the Intro to diving for $55. It was fun people watching. The beach was not too crowded but there was a youth group there swimming and they had a donkey that the kids were riding on, swimming with, etc. It was nice to see kids having fun like that. I thought to myself that here in the states, we could never have an activity like that without some uptight parent worrying about their kid getting stepped on or the youth group advisors worrying about getting sued. Guess what; everyone had fun, no one got hurt and it looked like a great time! We had lunch at the Full Moon and it was as all our meals on STX were: GREAT!! I was still so full from all the eating I’d been doing that I had the salad with fish (YUM) and the guys had the usual Burgers. They do take out so you can eat on the beach but we just eat at the bar. We did take some frozen drinks with us for our afternoon sunning and swimming and they were quite refreshing. On our trip back home late that afternoon, I took a wrong turn and landed in the projects. We drove through without any problems at all. For dinner that night, we ordered some pizza and ate in our room. We got it from Maria (?) pizza which is next to the Schooner Market. It was very good and it was an easy, cheap dinner.
Day 4- We took another road trip and this time we went to F’Stead. I had to find the University of the Virgin Islands because there was a road race being held that Saturday (Olympic Day Run) and it was one of those cool things that I just had to do. It was easy to find and definitely would return on Sat. We also stopped along side the road and bought some mangos (it is mango season). I must say they were the best mangos that I had ever eaten. I stopped everytime I saw a stand and bought some. We drove through F’stead and it is a cute town. The money that has been spent to refurbish it has been well spent. I hope someday they can get those cruise ships back b/c it would sure help the island out!! We didn’t stop but we headed up the west coast of the island to the Sunset Grill. We wanted to stop at the Rainbow Club but we couldn’t find that. Changes in Latitude seemed closed but the Sunset Grill was open. We hung out on that beach for the day. It was pretty rocky but nice. There were lounge chairs for us to hang out on. We walked up the beach and it looked like someone had made a house out of boxes and palm leaves so we left that alone. We walked down the beach and we did find another beach bar (I can’t remember the name) but it looked cute. It looked like they had brought in a bunch of sand b/c it wasn’t as rocky there. We had lunch at the Sunset Grill (very good). There was hardly anyone there early but as the afternoon went on, it started to pick up. We had the beach to ourselves, though. We could see Cottages by the Sea and Sandy Point in the distance and we decided we have to come back some other time to check out Sandy Point. It looked beautiful.
After we left Sunset, we headed into the rainforest. It was a beautiful drive. We found the Leap and it was fun looking around. When we were in STX before, I bought a mahogany piece of STX and this time I bought another small trinket. The guy working there was very sweet and gave us a small tour. We then headed to the Domino Club b/c we had to see the beer drinking pig. It was after 4 pm and the pig’s hours are 10-4 so we just sat and had a few drinks. I had to try the mamawanna which was very tasty (and strong). The bar is really a fun thing to see. It’s like a hut in the middle of the rainforest. We loved it there. After our drinks, we promised we’d be back another day and we headed home.
We had dinner that night at Duggans Reef. Again, there were very few people and we had the restaurant to ourselves. That may have been b/c at Chenay they were having a concert. In fact, when we got back to Chenay, we could barely find a parking spot. It’s a big local attraction. The owner of Chenay Bay is a music buff and has a bunch of concerts there. It sounded like a lot of fun but we passed on it.
My son is breathing down my neck for the computer, so I’ll come back another day to continue about the trip. Thanks for listening.
