I am finally gettng around to posting this overdue trip report. I love to relive our vacation this way and I hope you all enjoy reading........we flew out of Dulles early Monday morning with AA. We had an hour layover in San Juan and then off to STX. We have done the short layover in San Juan multiple times with checked on luggage and up to this point we have never had a problem w/ missed connections or lost luggage. Ive read the horror stories but I guess we have been lucky. Our trip home was cut a bit close but that was due to weather. We arrived in STX at 1pm and Judi of St Croix was waiting there w/ our Toyota Camry. The car was ok but you can tell it has been ridden hard. On the way to Chenay Bay we stopped at Wendys (we had no meal on the flight and my husband and 2 teenage boys were starved) and then at Kmart. It struck me funny that our 1st 2 stops were to places familiar to us.....anyhow, the Pueblo in Sunny Isle is closed so we just headed to the Schooner Market for our supplies. I would bet that was more expensive than the local grocery stores but convience was key b/c we were so tired. I did the driving and it took a bit to get used to driving on the other side of the road; it was more challenging the STJ b/c of the highways, more traffic, etc but it wasn't bad. You have to really pay attention b/c the roads arent marked that well, but we had been warned about that.
We finally made it to Chenay Bay around 3ish. I had called the week before we left and asked about an upgrade from gardenview and they gave us a great Oceanview cottage at no extra cost. They may have called it an Oceanfront but none of the cottages were actually on the beach. We had one of the upgraded rooms and I would recommend asking for that if you go there. I heard some of the older rooms weren't as nice. Our cottage was at the end of the resort which gave us privacy. That was nice. And the view was beautiful! We enjoyed Chenay Bay because it was quiet and quaint. It's not fancy but it had everything we needed. The pool was great, there was a little hut with water toys, tennis rackets (my kids played most days) and kayaks, etc, etc. There are sailboats there but we dont know how to sail; we only saw them out once or twice. They kayaks got great use with people going to Green Cay. The beach at Chenay Bay was ok. The sand is coarse and there is alot of seagrass in the water so my kids didnt swim too much out there. One more note about Chenay Bay is that every employee there did everything they could to make our stay pleasurable. If you had a question, complaint, anything, all you had to do was ask. We saw the owner almost everyday and he made him self visible to all the guests which is good in our eyes.
For our 1st dinner we went to Cheeseburgers in Paradise. It was excellent. My boys are burger experts and the burgers rated a 10 with us!! The owner told me that if you're not real hungry, get the kids burger. I was so full because I had to eat the whole thing!!
I'll sign off now and continue with part 2 later.
