Hi all,

Thanks for all the information I was able to gather from this website prior to our trip. It really helped a lot. My wife and I stayed in a villa on the south shore called Southern Exposure (www.soxpo.com). It was absolutely beautiful!! This villa sits right on the shore with a magnificient view from the pool deck. There was always a great breeze so we were able to totally enjoy the outdoors all day and night. The villa has everything you could possibly want. It is very private and we always felt safe. We watched turtles surfacing from the pool deck and really enjoyed that. This place was very relaxing. We sat outside and drank a bottle of wine every night watching the sun set.

We went to RumRunners to watch the final four basketball games (Go UCONN!!!!). It turns out the owner of the bar is from Connecticut so it was nice to watch the games there and be routing for UCONN. By the way, did I say we are from Connecticut, the home of the NCAA Men's and Women's Champions!!!!

We went to eat at the following restaurants:

Bacchus - Great food, great service. Wednesday night is two for one night ofor wine and we got two very good bottles of wine for the price of one.

The Galleon - Again great food and service. A little noisy in the restaurant but very nice other than that. The waitress made a Caesar Salad at the table that was the best I've had in a long time.

Tutto Bene - Again great food and service. The bread is almost too good.

Sunset Grille - The view was spectacular. Food and service were good.

Tiviloi Gardens - Food and service were good.

Unfortunately some restaurants we wanted to go to were closed for good (Top Hat and Indies) and one was closed due to family problems (Blue Moon).

We enjoyed the beach as Chenay Bay the best. Cane bay was also very nice.

We rented a car and drove around the island a lot. The island if very beautiful and diverse. Fredericksted seems a lttle run down. Driving on the wrong side of the road takes a lot of concentration but it is doable. The people were always very friendly.

All in all, we will definately go back and we will definately stay at Southern Exposure again.

Thanks for a great trip report Joe! We're actually in STX now and can use advice on where to eat and go. Always nice to get someone's opinion.

My husband is ready to move and is looking at condos for sale. I'll have to keep my hands on the check book or we'll be here permanently! Not really a bad option though.

Hello Sharon,

What have you done so far on St. Croix? Hows it going?

We're back from our 8th trip to STX (3/16-3/27). Rented a villa for the first time--overlooking Green Cay Marina--and brought friends, who are now as much in love with the island as we.

Several good lunches at Rum Runner, great lunch at Duggan's, fun time at Cane Bay Beach Bar and the beach there, many drinks with island friends at Deep End Bar, nice dinners at Cultured Pelican, Tutto Bene (sound deadeners overhead help a lot--heard it was very loud before), H20 was pretty good but not as good as we were led to believe, a couple of breakfasts at the Golden Rail, appetizers and ceasar salad at the Galleon bar.

Sharon, my checkbook vibrates every time I'm there--it goes with the territory (no pun intended). It won't shock me if I make the move one of these days. If you want a different island experience, drop in to the Domino Club in the island interior and order a mamawanna. Order a second if you're not driving.

Enjoy!

David

Thanks David. That mamawanna has a HUGE kick and quick too. LOL.

Did you do any day time sightseeing or charters? Feedback on them?

Glad to hear you had a good time!

I was proud of myself for doing the whole shot at once! From the Military you don't question a shot of Weed or a shot of Mammawanna. It's belly up! Later I heard about hardened MEN who wouldn't attempt that. I'm quite proud of myself. And the kick is great!

I'm anxious to try a mamawanna. Where is the Domino Club again? We're perpetually lost so I'm sure we'll drive by it at some point..........not really lost but taking the scenic route most of the time.

We're staying at Cruzan Princess, rented a condo for a couple of weeks. I like it, we're the youngest people here I think. It is a quiet community with many long time residents keeping the place spit shined. It seems that some people do nothing but work the entire time they're here.

I'm really enjoying just sitting on the deck or at the beach reading or sleeping. We met Linda and Rick the other night and had a fun evening at Off the Wall. I think all restaurants should do sunset shots. We've tried H2O at Hibiscus..........nice that we can just walk there.

I'm not sure which is my favorite beach........not enoough time to see them all yet but I'm working on it. We drove to Point Udall which I thought was interesting although I must be the only person since we were the only ones there.

We're planning to go to the Sunset Jazz on Friday evening. If we leave home about three we should be able to get there in time........that will give us time to drive around the island a few times before actually arriving.

All I can remember is to take Mahagony Road east from F'sted area and you basically go by it when your driving through the rainforest. It is off to your left, but the sign doesn't face the road, it also faces east. So you can miss it. Place has off street parking so just watch for a parking lot.

Please correct my directions if wrong Cruzans 'cause that was 6 weeks ago that I was there and Sweeney was driving.

Thanks Sharon for the update on your trip. Point Udall is a bit far from anything, I think thats why it often doesn't have many people there.

The scenic drives on the north and north-west side of St. Croix are lovely; north shore road, butler bay area, the rain forest. And Eve's directions will get you to the Domino Club which is in the same general area as the scenic drives. If you like horseback riding you can do a horseback tour of the rainforest, also in this same area, with Paul and Jill's Equestrian Stables. See if they are doing a pig roast at Mt. Victory 772-1651; that might be a fun thing to do.
