I wanted to comment on a few restaurants here on STX that we have been enjoying during our visit.

Joanne always comments on this message board about the food and atmosphere at Bombay in downtown Christiansted. We missed eating there on our last visit and made a point of trying it this time on her recommendation. It has great atmosphere and fairly reasonably priced food by island standards. Each entree’ comes with a small salad and the house creamy Italian dressing was outstanding. We started with Nachos and Paula had a turkey club (came with a salad) while I tried a lunch special of sautéed Conche over fettuccine. All excellent and very adequate in size. I believe it is in the basement of the building it is in and really looks fine inside. We ate in the bar area where the walls are stone and looks to be very old. Thanks Joanne!

Another place we missed last time was Savant’s in Christiansted. This place has open-air dining in the back and a small inside dining area near the bar. We ate inside since it has been so cool and breezy at night. The food was excellent. We started with satay chicken with peanut dipping sauce (I hope I got that right!) and we both had an entrée’ of maple pork with vegetables. All very delicious. This place is also fairly reasonably priced and we would recommend it as well. It has a small sign so you have to watch for it or you will drive right passed it.

The other place we tried this time is the Paradise Café in downtown Christiansted. We have had breakfast here a couple of times and what a bargain. Great coffee and the omelet with hot sausage, peppers and onions is very tasty. Two very filling breakfasts here with two coffees and one milk came to around $17 total and that is a great deal here. At home we can’t eat that cheap at IHOP.

One thing about restaurants here, and that is that you can’t take them for their outside appearance. They are tucked in and around old buildings and each one is a different experience. The service has always been excellent and everybody has been very friendly.

We’ve also had some very fine meals at some of the other restaurants here that advertise more heavily and cost a bit more. As Joanne does, ask to split some of the meals. You still get plenty to eat and the cost stays within reason.

Hi Don.

Pretty hard to beat Joanne in a response to a message...especially when she's supposed to be at work (LOL). Glad you found Sonja's website. Wife has been perusing (sp?) it on a regular basis. Hope there are no more hurricanes!

Geez, did I mention that I have the hurricane Lenny bracelet because I had my vacation there "extended" in 1999?
