Is there anyplace on-island to rent a motorcycle? Or a scooter?

Is this a wise idea, give the left side driving?
How are the road conditions?

Raprider,
I don't know of anywhere to rent a motorcycle on the island. I'm not sure I'd recommend one anyway. Driving on the left is not an issue. The potholed roads and the unusual way Crucians drive could be. We firmly believe here that if you can stop without hitting me, I have the right of way. We are also known to stop in the road for a quick visit with a friend. We will also stop and let you out in traffic. Driving here is a bit different than in the states.

Hello Rap,

A few months back someone mentioned this one: Tommy's Scooter Rentals, 340-332-2118. They are relatively new so haven't heard much about them.

I'm an experienced (and somewhat senior, at 52) motorcycle rider. I have 2 bikes, a vintage Honda CX-500 cc tourer and a Kawasaki KLR 250 on/off road bike. I wondered about motorcycle riding in the Virgin Islands UNTIL I actually experienced the roads and/or the motorists there. After a week of driving on St. Thomas and St. John, I would NEVER consider using a motorcycle for transport. I'd have preferred a Bradley fighting vehicle or an M1A1 main battle tank, but they didn't rent those at Cool Breeze, so I had to settle for a Suzuki Vitara.

You guys are cracking me up 🙂
Guess I'll stick to the cage for my first visit and evaluate.
BTW, how do I reach Cool Breeze?
My wife currently booked us a Toyota Echo, but I'd prefer a Suzuki.

they have a website

www.coolbreezecarrental.com

But I don't know if they have an office on STX. For some of the roads in STJ, you really need to have a 4X4 vehicle. I've never been to STX, perhaps some of the people who are more familiar with the roads and /or rental providers there can better advise you.

Hey Raprider,
The Echo will be fine on STX. Rented one there last October. Hauled four of us around, no problem. As long as you don't try going off road you won't need FWD. BTW, the perfect bike for STX would be 450 duel sport, maybe a Honda CRF with lights.

What do you mean "more snow tonight"? The doppler radar says NJ is getting snow NOW. And it's headed right for me.

I guess it depends on how far south you are...up here in Princeton, we didn't get any till almost 5pm.

Anyway, gotta go home and finish packing.
Headed to the airport in the a.m.

See ya on the flip!
