Thinking of taking a family vacation the first week of April to St Croix. We have two teenagers and would like something on the beach where we can snorkle and swim. We would like to have a place with a kitchenette so we can buy some food and prepare some of our meals ourselves. We want our vacation to be pleasant with no hidden surprizes. Thanks in advance for the help!!

The Buccaneer is the nicest resort onisland. They will have everything you want, and more. It's also the most expensive resort onisland -- rooms start at $310 per night.

If you don't want to spend that much, try Carambola. It has many amenities also, but it's on the North shore, far from C-sted. (Although the North Shore is awesome -- my fave place onisland).

Divi Carina will also work for you. It's on the far east end of the island.

Those three places are by far your best bet for what you're looking for. There are other places, of course, but none as nice.

None of these places have kitchenettes. For that you should look for a condo/villa.

Also, April is the start of the summer season and prices are considerably less than they are now.

Thanks for the replies so far. What about Cheany Bay Beach Resort? I see they have kitchenettes.

Cheney Bay is ok. You could also try Coakley Bay Condos, further east than Cheney Bay.

With teens, you should look seriously at the Buccaneer. It's centrally located, right on one of the nicest beaches on STX and has lots of activities. If the teens are old enough, they could even venture into town alone during the day. There are special rates that begin April 9th that really cut the cost. Plus a full breakfst in inculded in the room rate.

DISCLAIMER - I am an employee of the Buccaneer.

We really enjoyed our stay at Pelican Cove Condos- great location and very upscale.

www.pelicancovecondos.com

FYI- the beach directly in front of the condos is not really "swimmable"- lots of rocks (but v. clear water!) Less than 3 minutes down is a beautiful and swimmable beach. My only complaint would be the amount of sea grass... it would be paradise if it were groomed.
Good snorkeling too!

Ahh! Linda J. is so honest and reliable for years on this forum. I think I caught your drift though about some affordable meals. Wife and I are going to Hotel on the Cay for our 4th year. Very reasonable, stay on your own 7 acre island, 90 seconds from the boardwalk via water taxi. We usually walk to a grocery store...maybe half a mile, and then have "microwave omelettes, nachos, etc. All rooms have mini fridge and microwave. You can also use grill available at front desk. Snorkeling great on the island/cay, sunbathing wonderful, very safe and great view of Christiansted Harbor all hours of the day or night.

Two years ago we brought our two 20ish boys and their wives. They loved it and want to go back ASAP. One of the wive's is a nanny for a Microsoft Exec and has been all over the place for the rich and famous. She prefers Hotel on the Cay.

Don't get me wrong. Not fancy but location is primo!

HOtel on the Cay is another good choice. I think your main objective with teens should be staying someplace where they can get around a little without you. Something centrally located. You'll have fun no matter where you stay.

We took our twin 17 yr old boys to Chenay Bay last June and we really had a great time. If you are into a low key casual place, Chenay Bay is your place. We found it reasonable and quite comfortable. We did rent a car and traveled all around the island so we could try alot of beaches. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Chenay Bay has kayaks that you can take out to the cay. We snorkeled at Chenay BAy and at the cay and it was not bad.
