Looks like we'll be back to St. John in early Dec !!! Trying to plan expenses.

Does anyone know...
- Taxi fare from airport to Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook for 2 people?
- Ferry fare from Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook to Cruz Bay?

Have to make sure there is money money left over for painkillers 🙂

Go to the top of this page. For ferry schedules and fares see "Quick Links" on the right hand side and click on Ferry Schedule.

For St Thomas taxi fares go to "St Thomas" in the bar header and scroll down to "transportation". For St John taxi fares, go to "St John" and ditto.

There you go - was that easy or what? 😀

Just returned from STT. Rented a car, so did not need a taxi. The ferry from Red Hook to St. John was $45 round trip on the Roanoke and Captain Vic. It was $40 round trip for the General (grey ferry).

Thank you !!

As our flight arrives at 1:50 pm, looks like we'll have to make the trek to Red Hook? I don't see a ferry from Charlotte Amalie until 5 pm.

5:30 actually. Time-wise the "trek" works out the same. From CA to Cruz Bay shorter taxi ride, longer ferry ride; RH to Cruz Bay longer taxi ride, shorter ferry ride.

The ferry fares that dsnif lists look to be the car barge ferries and not the passenger ferry.

Anyone know what CA ferry trips are running in early Dec?

I'm trying to pin down airfare, so considering 10am, 11:15am, and 1pm. Any of these available?

Thanks!
- John

The schedule shows 10am, 1pm, and 5:30pm. The chances of knowing for sure, for early December, are slim to next to none. Passenger loads, equipment availability and weather conditions all play a roll in which runs are made on a particular day. Make your best flight arrangement then ask the taxi dispatcher upon arrival at STT if the CA ferry to St John is available, and if not then just ride the taxi to Redhook where there is always an hourly ferry run going throughout the day.

Where are you getting this schedule from? It's from years ago! The schedule on this site is kept pretty much up to date and more than most. As RockyDock says, just check with the taxi dispatcher when you arrive.

I agree to check with the taxi dispatcher. I don't know why you would take ferry schedule into account while pinning down airfares. Unless your flight arrives after 10:30 pm you always have the Red Hook ferry that makes it's last run to Cruz Bay at midnight. No matter which ferry you take to StJ when you arrive in Cruz Bay you can ask the ticket counter what the current downtown schedule is for your return if that is your desire.

There is a message on the CA ferry schedule here from Dec 16th 2009 which is a little confusing about only three of the six listed departures are currently being run. I think the message is no longer applicable as the schedule seems to reflect the normal schedule these days.

There were previously six departures (from each end) and now just the three listed.

Excellent. Hoping to catch the 10AM. Earliest arrival on St. John ever.

It really makes so little difference. If you're in time to catch the 10AM from town you'll be in Cruz Bay by 10:45. If you take the 11AM from Red Hook, you'll be in Cruz Bay by 11:30. Take the flight which suits you best and don't worry about which ferry terminal you'll go from to get to STJ (if you even have a choice!)

I have to agree with STT Resident

When we visit the VI it is time forget about any and all schedules. Relax and enjoy the ride whichever one gets you there.

No doubt.

I was referring to our typical 2PM+ STT arrival and getting to STJ around 5PM. A few extra hours is a welcome gift.
