Hi everyone!
My daughter's wedding was 6/18/09 (which I am sure many of you have heard me say many times on these posts)
But I am finally getting around to typing a trip report! We had such a fantastic time, that I really wanted to share it with all of you! There was 12 of us and we would get together every night and try a new place, Every single day was amazing and that was pretty darn special- what a great way to enjoy the days leading up to the wedding day! It was a heavenly week!
6/12/09 - Arrived in STT, greeted at airport with rum shots! That was great! Then greeted by our Rental car company - Amalie, they were holding a sign that read, "The Future Mr and Mrs. Hawks." My daughter loved the surprise! We checked into Marriott Frenchmen's Cove and enjoyed the pool! Dinner at Tavern on the Waterfront. There was live entertainment - a great singer who dedicated the song "At Last" to the future Mr. and Mrs. ! Good food and lots of dancing!!!
6/13/09 - Boat trip to Jost Van Dyke - lunch at Foxy's and a swim to the Soggy Dollar Bar! A great day! One of our highlights!
Dinner at the Caribbean Saloon and then drinks next door - I can't remember the name, but we were on the deck
and beers were cheap!
6/14/09 - Relaxing day in the pools and ocean! Dinner at Lobster Grill - Lobster was delicious! Bugs were bad, the only time during our visit that we noticed.
6/15/09 - Took a Guided Island Tour- we loved our driver so much that we called him again on the wedding day and he picked up our guests and delivered to Magens Bay for the wedding- he even volunteered to stay until the wedding was over! (it must have been a slow day for him) We went to the courthouse to complete the marriage papers, etc. and then did some Island shopping!
Dinner at Duffy's! Very fun place and alot of dancing!!! Returned to Marriott and stayed in pool until 3 am! So surprised that the pool never closed, must be an Island thing because they usually close around 11 pm- we loved that!!!
6/16/09 - 3 couples went on a private snorkeling trip to STJ, 2 couples took the ferry to STJ and 1 couple (me) went on a snorkel trip - we saw lots of turtles! While getting to our destination, we did get caught in a really big storm, it got kind of scary, we couldn't pull into the snorkel site because we couldn't see anything! No land anywhere in sight! Our captain, a young man, put on the music from Gilligan's Island, and we all had to chuckle since this too was a "3 hour tour, a 3 hour tour" and yes the weather started getting worse just like the song says! But all in all, it turned out to be a nice day! We had dinner at Mim's - it was amazing! And our waitress was so nice! We had a birthday and also the future couple to be so she brought out 2 desserts with candles for both of them! It was a nice touch!
6/17/09 - Another relaxing pool and ocean day (we love to relax by the water- we are from Michigan, so enough said). 2 couples went to Coral World, while the rest just enjoyed the water with us! We enjoyed the swim up bar at the Marriott's Frenchman's Reef! While my daughter and I got Manicures and Pedicures, the guys snorkeled! We met for dinner at Roberts American Grill - they also had live entertainment- a piano singer that dedicated "How Sweet It Is" to the future couple. (it was the song they had picked to play during the cake cutting at their reception, which was held later on 6/27/09 in Michigan.) So that was very special! Food was great and they make their own Coconut Ice Cream - my daughter can not stop talking about it! Early night, since the big day was the following day!
6/18/09 - Wedding Day! - Tina from Weddings the Island Way took care of everything and it was amazing! She sent someone to do my daughter's hair and makeup to our condo and that was so handy! Wedding on Magens Bay was out of this world ( see pictures that Sherri posted for me on 7/9/09 - titled Posting for Larry5747m, photos from daughter STT Wedding- I think it is on page 3) Sherri even stopped by to say hi- how nice was that? The weather and water could not have been any more beautiful! We had lunch at Blue Moon Cafe- we just ordered off the menu, no special reception menu, since we were going to have a reception when we returned home. Food was great and scenery was beautiful! We then did a Private sunset sail - the 12 of us- it was amazing. We boarded our boat on the dock by Latitude 18 and wow did that turn out to be an unexpected surprise! After leaving the boat we stopped and started drinking and dancing and didn't stop!! The guy singing was great and he never took a break! After dedicating a song to the new couple, someone even approached my daughter and asked if she had hired him for her reception?? No we didn't, but wow did it work out fantastic! A great time was had by all- we all danced like crazy, which prompted everyone to join in! A great ending to an amazing day!
6/19/209 - We all had to return home to Michigan leaving the newlyweds to honeymoon for a few days! They checked into the Marriott Frenchman's Reef and Morningstar Hotel. They had dinner at Craig and Sally's. ( I will note the places that they ate at after we left, but of course I wasn't there, so I can't comment, but they said everything was great, every night!
6/20/09 - Fat Turtle
6/21/09 - Shipwreck Tavern
6/22/09 - St John / Cafe Roma
6/23/09 - Dinner at Havana Blue
6/24/09 - Water Island - Honeymoon Beach / Dinner at Room With a View
6/25/09 - Relaxed by pool until flight left for home at 4:00 pm
*They also went to Hawksnest one of those days- their last name is Hawks, so that was kinda cool to them!
So as you can see, we ALL had a great time! It was an ideal wedding week leading up to the big day! A visit that we will never forget! It was as they say, "Priceless."

Nancy,
So glad you were able to take the time to write about your trip! It truly sounds like a wonderful time was had by all and the evening of the wedding sounds delightful! Here is the link to the wedding photos that I posted: https://www.vinow.com/wwwtalk/read.php?4,103222
for those to see if they hadn't already. That was funny about the "3 hour tour", I was singing it in my head as I read! Glad it didn't stop you from having a wonderful time on the boat. We are already looking forward to a return visit, so you bess be lookin' us up!!!!!! 😀
Thanks Sherri!
Yes, we will be back! I even found myself scanning the internet for flights yesterday after I posted these trip details! Can you believe it???? And yes I will for sure look you and Tina up! This time instead of planning a wedding, we can just socialize and have some drinks- I would love that! Hey I was also going to ask you- I didn't see any posts from you for a little bit, did you go away somewhere? Just wondering, because I missed reading your posts on here- they are always so informative! Or maybe you were just busy, just wanted to let you know I missed you!
🙂 Nancy
Wow, Nancy! What a fabulous trip you had! Thanks so much for sharing! It was fun reading about it and reminiscing about our own trips. So happy to know that you are now one of us...a VI addict! 😎 The VI's will forever have a special place in your heart! They definitely do in mine. *-)
HI Nancy,
Yes, I had gone up to Upstate NY for 10 days to visit family! Since I've gotten back, I have been very busy with the villas and also weddings! I cannot complain at all! Tina has been running the office pretty much single handedly as our boss is off island for all of July, I was gone, and Angela was gone as well! She truly is amazing! So nice to know I was missed!
I think drinks would be fun! Keep us posted! (tu)
Sherri,
I am getting married in St. Thomas in October. Can you tell me who your sunset cruise was with? I am having problems finding a boat ride reception for 13 people. Most of the boats only take six.
Nancy? Do you remember the name of the Sunset Sail? If not, I'll call Tina and find out (that is, if Weddings The Island Way booked it)!
No Sherri, we didn't book our sunset cruise thru Tina. My daughter arranged that on her own. It was called Treazzure. Here is the website!
http://www.sailingvirginislands.com/ It's a big boat and they do alot of week and weekend trips. My daughter had done a snorkel trip with 3 couples (they had a limit of 6 for snorkel trips) But for the sunset trip they did 12 people. It was a private boat ran by a nice couple. We also did a trip to Jost Van Dyke and Soggy Dollar Bar with them too! So we gave them alot of business in 3 days!
🙂 Nancy
I just wanted to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this post! I'm having my wedding in St. Thomas in Feb 2010 and your post gives so much great info! There will be 12-15 people there with me so you've really provided an outline for me 🙂 Thanks again!
I'm busy planning an October wedding and expect about 15 people to attend so this was very helpful, also sapphiredaizy I would love to hear about your wedding & experience!
hokiechick,
You can PM her and ask! 🙂
My fiance' and I will be arriving in St. Thomas on March 26th. From there, we're going to Jost Van Dyke for a week...March 27-April 3. We want to get married April 1 on one of Jost's beaches. It will be very simple...just the 2 of us. How do we find an officiant/minister? How do we start the legal process...paperwork? Is there something we can print from the computer...an application? Please help!
Thank you,
Cindy
There is a response on your other post! Congrats to you!
