How long should it take to get from STT to Red Hook by Taxi on Friday mid-afternoon (no Cruise Ships in town)?
TIA

Asked another way...
Would you estimate the taxi travel time between STT and Red Hook to be ~45 mins?

I'd allow 45 minutes even though that seems a little long. You didn't say what time you were arriving but you could hit the evening rush hour and one never knows when a truck is going to be broken down around the next corner or somebody has a fender bender!

Thanks - I searched this question (I asked about a year ago) and Islander said 35min - so 45min should suffice.

We are arriving right before 2PM - and I was thinking about getting to 3PM Red Hook ferry as to get to the Jeep Rental place by 4PM.

When you arrive at the airport, check to see if the CA (waterfront)-STJ ferry is up and running - according to news sources it's supposed to be back in operation the end of this week.

blujahz,

Do you have a private taxi? Taxis to Red Hook can make multiple stops...resorts along the way.

I will check on the CA ferry (we took it last time). I saw the news - but I don't want to make the STT newspaper headlines... "Man Misses Ferry - Loses Jeep Reservation" lol Hopefully, the CA ferry will be up and departing at 3PM.

Isn't a Private Taxi expensive? It will only be me - I don't want to spend more than it worth to me (of course). I figured I would make it clear (politely) that I need to catch the 3PM Red Hook ferry.

Jeep rental folks are pretty flexible about picking cars up. I wouldn't worry about it. Give them a call from the USofA and explain that you might arrive an hour later and ask what they can do.

Don't start your wonderful vacation but targeting that ferry ride. Do what others have suggested about the CA ferry. Enjoy the taxi ride as a way of settling in. I would say getting into island time, but I hate that term.

Thanks - I know the pace - just trying to get to the rental before they close - otherwise, we will have to pick-up Saturday morning, but it would be great to have Friday nite so we can provision at Star Market. It is just me - the rest of the clan are going to wait for the Westin ferry. I am just planning in case we miss the 2:30 Westin ferry - which is likely unless we are on time and are bags get off the plane real fast (unlikely).

I will shoot for the CA ferry - that is familiar to me - last time I was in Red Hook was 1991, but just in case they haven't got it together - or not running the 3PM - I will go to RH.

Thanks again.

I just called Transportation Services and they tell me the CA ferry IS NOT running tomorrow (Friday, 6/15).

How much is a private taxi from STT to Red Hook?

I'd worry more about whether the plane is on time or if the luggage belts are working. If you got in at 2 and were able to get to RH right away, then no problem

We, my wife and I, shared a taxi with 4 other people. We had 3 bags and it cost $30 from airport to Red Hook. It took about 45 minutes with bad traffic in CA, which I thought we still did great time.

Have a great vacation.

I'd call the car rental people and work something out. Anything can happen prior to the ferry. Your plane might be late, etc. (as others have said). Based on the extra cost of the private taxi, you might want to offer to pay someone $20 to stay overtime at the car rental place for 1 hr. I've heard of people arriving on STJ to their car with the key under the mat and their name on a paper on the windshield. Might they do that for you? Note sure how that works....do they transact the credit cards from home, prior to leaving?

What about Dynamic Tours Shuttle. I've heard that if you pre-arrange, they'll drive you directly to RH ferry without stopping at any other stops. It's $100 round trip per person. That seems worth it to get to paradise!

Take the regular van. Paradise is when you get off the plane. Even if they make a couple of stops, you'll be able to relax and some STT island moments.

All this worry about how to get to RH is not worth it. In mucho, mucho trips we've never had a private taxi and that's with us arriving always around 9.00 to 9.30 in the evening.

Spend you money on booze.

$100 pp r/t from STT to Red Hook? Sheesh! Those customers must have seriously urgent needs OR too much money.
